Zuko, formerly known as Prince Zuko and currently known as Fire Lord Zuko is one of the antagonists-turned-one of the two deuteragonists of Nickelodeon's Avatar: The Last Airbender, serving as the central antagonist of Book One: Water, the villainous deuteragonist Book Two: Earth, and the deuteragonist of Book Three: Fire, and he also appears as a supporting character in the sequel series The Legend of Korra.
Zuko is a member of Fire Nation royalty and a master firebender who ruled as the Fire Lord from 100 BC until his abdication in 167 BC. He is the eldest and only son of Princess Ursa and Fire Lord Ozai. Originally the main enemy of his Avatar team, Zuko spends three years trying to capture the long-lost Avatar in order to end his exile and restore his honor as Crown Prince of the Fire Nation. He can be identified by the distinctive burn scar on the left side of his face. This was given to him shortly before his expulsion as a result of an incident in which his father, Ozai, spoke out of turn or unintentionally disrespected his father. He refused to duel with him.
With the support of his paternal uncle, General Iroh, and after much internal struggle and turmoil, Zuko became increasingly disillusioned and rejected Ozai and his model of the Fire Nation. Instead, he joins the Avatar's group, becoming Aang's lifelong friend and firebending leader, determined to end the war and restore honor to both himself and the Fire Nation. While Aang defeated Ozai, Zuko, with Katara's help, defeated his sister Princess Azula and became Fire Lord, proclaiming the end of the Hundred Years' War and the beginning of a new era of love and peace.
At the beginning of his reign, Zuko had to overcome great difficulties and resolve several crises, especially those caused by the Harmony Restoration Movement and the New Ozai Society. Despite this, he succeeded in keeping the peace and eventually became one of the founders of the United Republic of Nations. Zuko resigned as Fire Lord in 167 BC, passing the throne to his daughter Izumi, who became Ambassador of Peace.
