Wolbach is the main antagonist of the Japanese fantasy comedy light novel series KonoSuba: God's Blessing on this Wonderful World!, released from 2013 to 2020 and the supporting protagonist of the 2014-2015 spin-off prequel light novel series KonoSuba: An Explosion on This Wonderful World!.
She's the rival of Aqua, and the mentor of Megumin.
Appearance[]
Wolbach was a beautiful woman with yellow cat eyes and short red hair. She had pointed ears like an elf and a strange oval mark on her forehead. Wolbach was seen growing goat-like horns from the sides of her head when she served as the Demon Lord's general, but is this part of her natural physiology or just that. It is unknown whether it is a decoration. She was also quite tall and well-endowed.
While teaching Megumin to unleash Explosion, Wolbach wore a hooded robe that covered her entire body and hid her face. During her time as Demon King General, she wore a one-piece suit with a cloak that went down to her ankles and a tie that hid her cleavage.
Personality[]
Despite being a Dark God and a general of the Demon King, Wolbach was shown to have had a relatively high moral standing. Although Wolbach is a goddess, she does not talk to Megumin, thinking that Megumin dedicating her life to Explosion is a waste, and she worries about the girl's future.
Wolbach also shows himself to be a very polite and patient person. After being freed from the seal, he risked being captured by the Crimson Demons for several days in order to fulfill Megumin's wish to learn explosion magic.
Wolbach usually has a calm personality, but sometimes she loses her temper, such as being questioned by Aqua about her legitimacy as a goddess. Even after her camp was blown up by explosions for several days, cracks began to appear.
History[]
Wolbach was the Dark God who presided over the realm of laziness and violence. She claimed to be a perfectly decent upright Goddess before the Axis Church considered her a "God of Darkness". Wolbach was split into two beings, and she was sealed within an intricate sealing stone. One of these beings represented the side of laziness, the other of violence, and took the form of a gigantic black beast. The Sealing Stone has been moved to the Crimson Demons Village. The Crimson Demons took the goddess with them because they thought the idea of trapping a dark god in a village sounded cool and would become a tourist attraction for the village.
About 8 years before the main story, while young Megumin was playing with a complicated sealing stone, she accidentally released Wolbach and his girlfriend's half, and they went on a rampage. Wolbach used the explosion to defeat her beast and save Megumin. She then sealed away her beast again after draining most of her violent energy, deciding to come back for her when her beast was more calm. Wolbach then taught Megumin her gratitude spell ``Explosion'' and left the Scarlet Demon Village.
The violent aspect was unknowingly unsealed seven years later by Megumin's younger sister Komekko. After her confrontation with Wolbach, Komekko was able to defeat her beast, as her beast was too weak, and took her back to her home for her lunch. However, Megumin thinks that her weakened form is her normal pet cat, and she keeps her violent side as a pet/familiar, calling her "Chomusuke".
Eventually, Wolbach will join the Demon King's army as one of the eight generals who protect the castle's barrier. Some time after Komekko frees Chomusuke, Wolbach returns to Kouma no Sato, but learns that Chomusuke has already been released.
Deciding that she needed a break from her travels, Wolbach decided to head to the hot spring town of Alcanretia. On her way to Alcanretia, she meets Yunyun, a girl from the Crimson Demon tribe, in a traveling carriage. When she learned that the girl was looking for her adventure companion, Wolbach offered to invite her, but Yunyun declined when she learned that Wolbach was going to Alcanretia, a city with which she had ties.
Abilities[]
As a goddess, Wolbach possessed incredible natural potential. Like Aqua, her magical power is extremely high, and she emits a divine aura. She claimed that as the Sloth Goddess she could give her enemies sleepless nights, and she claimed that she could inflict divine punishment on those who displeased her. Even though she is a goddess, she is not immortal. Because that is what led her to her doom when she was caught in Kazuma's tinynamite explosion.
Magic: Wolbach was an incredibly powerful sorcerer who had access to a vast array of advanced and intermediate spells. Since she could cast other spells immediately after she cast Explosion, she had an incredibly high mana reserve.
Intermediate Magic:
- Freeze Gust: An intermediate spell that can generate a gust of white powder and freeze enemies in place. Wolbach used Freeze Gust to defeat a swarm of One Punch Bears.
- Paralyze: An intermediate spell that instantly immobilizes the target. She used this magic on Megumin to steal her adventurer card.
Advanced Magic:
- Inferno: An advanced magic that generates a large flame and burns the surrounding area. Wolbach showed off this spell to keep Megumin away from Explosion's path.
- Teleport: Instantly transport up to 4 targets to a marked location. Each user can set he 3 marked locations for teleportation. She often used Teleport in conjunction with Explosion for a devastating hit-and-run combo.
- Explosive Magic: A special field of magic that creates devastating massive incendiary explosions. It is a one-shot magic because it usually consumes a lot of MP. Her blast is powerful enough to break the flank of violence in one hit and severely damage the walls of the fortress.
