Todomatsu Matsuno (松野 トド松 Matsuno Todomatsu) is a major character in the 1960s comedy manga series Osomatsu-kun, as well as it's 2010s comedy anime sequel-spinoff Osomatsu-san. Alongside his five older brothers, he is one of the focal characters of the series. His name derives from 椴松 (todomatsu), the Japanese name for the abies fir tree.

He was voiced by Haruko Kitahama in the 1966, Megumi Hayashibara in the 1988 (who also voiced Sailor Galaxia in Sailor Moon Cosmos and Eri Kasuga in Chimpui) and Miyu Irino (who also voiced Sora in Kingdom Hearts series) in the 2015 in the Japanese version, and by Max Mittelman in the American English version, who also voiced King in The Seven Deadly Sins.

Appearance[]

In Osomatsu-kun, Todomatsu appears identically to all of his older brothers, sporting the same yellow-buttoned, blue outfit and dull bluish-gray pants with brown shoes. His irises are black and he has a recognizable bowl cut with two cowlicks, traits they also all share.

Later in life, in Osomatsu-san, Todomatsu becomes more distinct as an adult: though the brothers all sport identical outfits that match their original series designs rather accurately (the pants are more gray, and a dress shirt underneath is more distinct and dons a tie), each brother more typically wears a color-specific hoodie throughout much of the series. In Todomatsu's case, his distinctive color is pink.

His mouth is often shown in a 'three' style, akin to a stylization of a cat, or a mouth often used to represent playfulness or mischief. Todomatsu also often wears a beanie atop his head, and among all his brothers, is the most effeminate. Being the only one shown to have interest in it save Karamatsu (voiced by Ray Chase), he is also the most fashion-savvy of the brothers.

Personality[]

In Osomatsu-kun, Todomatsu has a rather stock personality, interchangeable with that of his older brothers at any given time. While occasionally given traits, they aren't overly consistent to him in particular, and often in appearances individual brothers aren't even named, making it hard to single him out from his siblings.

Later in life, he comes to find his own personality: In Osomatsu-san, Todomatsu, like his older brothers, is not the most upstanding nor moral person. He often causes petty problems and has few real aspirations, being a shut-in NEET. Todomatsu is often referred to as 'Totty' by his brothers and others, and takes to nicknames and other gentle or affectionate monikers well. On the surface, he seems not only the most affable, but the most composed, but in actuality Todomatsu is most well-known for his trademark two-faced nature. He'll often talk badly about hi older brothers behind their backs in order to distance himself from them for social favor. He's the most successful with girls, and potentially jobs as well; he's often away from the house or uninterested in the brother's affairs.
