Robert Gru, also known as The Bald Terror, is the overarching protagonist of Despicable Me 3, the third installment in the Despicable Me franchise. He was a legendary supervillain, the late father of Felonious and Dru Gru and the ex-husband of Marlena Gru.
Biography[]
Robert came from a long-line of supervillains, who used a pig in Freedonia as their cover and become one himself. He established himself as one of the greatest criminals, becoming known as the "Bald Terror". At some point, he married a woman named Marlena and sired twin sons named Felonious and Dru. However, soon after the twins were born, Robert and Marlena divorces each other while taking Dru with him and Marlena took Felonious. They also agreed to not let the two boys know about their divorce, so Marlena told Gru that his father died of disappointment soon after he was born and never mentioned Dru.
Robert attempted to groom his son, Dru to become a supervillain like him, only to be ashamed at Dru's incompetence at the work. He was immensely proud of Gru's accomplishments at villainy.
By the beginning of the third film, Robert had died of unknown causes, leaving Dru to inherit his estate and other belongings. Determined to prove himself other than a failure, Dru reunited his brother, Felonious Gru so they could become a great villainous duo. However, Gru had reformed and dedicated to doing good instead.
