Heroine Overview

Where there's a supervillain, there's always a superhero close behind! No way I'm missing this!
~ Alya

Alya Césaire, known as Rena Rouge is one of the deuteragonists of Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug & Cat Noir.

She is voiced by Carrie Keranen.

Biography[]

In "Lady Wifi", after Alya gets suspended from school because of Chloé Bourgeois, she gets akumatized by Hawk Moth and becomes Lady Wifi, a supervillain whose powers come from her smartphone and its Wi-Fi signal.

In "Sapotis", after she receives the Fox Miraculous from Ladybug, when the Miraculous is inhabited by Trixx, becomes Rena Rouge, a fox-themed superhero who helps Ladybug and Cat Noir "during particularly difficult missions" in the second season and beyond.

In "Mayura", during the fight with Scarlet Moth, Rena Rouge is akumatized into Rena Rage, a fox-themed supervillain.

In "Oblivio", due to her and Nino's embarrassment at being caught playing the Super Penguino video game together, she, alongside Nino, are both akumatized into Oblivio, a memory-erasing supervillain.

In "Félix", after being fooled by Félix to think that Adrien didn't appreciate his friends, she is re-akumatized into Lady Wifi, along with Reflekta and Princess Fragrance, the three supervillains form The Punishers Trio, a group of supervillains who want to get revenge on Adrien, later Félix.

In "Gang of Secrets", after Marinette keeps hiding secrets from them, Alya is re-akumatized by Shadow Moth into Lady Wifi along with Reflekta, Princess Fragrance, Timebreaker and Horrificator, the five supervillains all form the Gang of Secrets, a group of supervillains who want to reveal Marinette's secrets. However, Alya was able to resist Shadow Moth while akumatized, which allowed her to transform back to normal. Ladybug returns the Fox Miraculous to become Rena Rouge. At the end of the episode, Marinette tells Alya that she is Ladybug.

As of "Optigami", she is now a permanent holder of the Fox Miraculous. She also becomes Marinette's successor presumptive for the ownship of the Miracle Box.

In "Hack-San", Alya receives the Ladybug Miraculous from Marinette when the latter needs to temporarily leave Paris with her parents to celebrate her aunt's birthday. When Robostus, together with the titular sentimonster, starts wreaking havoc, she uses the Miraculous, when inhabited by Tikki, to turn into Scarabella, a ladybug/scarab-themed superhero.

During the events of "Sentibubbler", she created an illusion of Ladybug, which said Alya would no longer use the Fox Miraculous, allowing Alya and her family to be freed from any future threats from Shadow Moth. This forces Alya to only use her miraculous behind the scenes, at least until Shadow Moth is defeated.

As of "Rocketear", after putting herself in a position where her hero persona could no longer be seen in public and where she could only assist her allies from the shadows, her costume changes and she decides that she is now Rena Furtive.

In "Strikeback", Alya willingly renounced herself after taking too many risks thanks to the effects of Risk and Carapace accidently exposing her in front of Shadow Moth while protecting her from Strikeback, as well as telling the truth to Nino about her being Rena Furtive, she returned the Fox Miraculous to Ladybug.

In "Miraculous Paris", after Betterfly kamikotized the Alya Césaire of his universe into Ubiquity, Alya was indirectly kamikotized as well, as Ubiquity's power allowed her to connect herself with any of her counterparts in all the multiverse. Later on, she was rekamikotized by Betterfly into Ubiquity so they could deploy Ladybug's plan to defeat Monarch, Shadybug and Claw Noir, with her transformation being undone by Monarch, with that serving as a ploy to mislead the supervillains about the existence of another kamikotized superhero. After Shadybug and Claw Noir were convinced to become superheroes, Betterfly kamikotized Alya into Ubiquity for the third time to open a portal back to their universe. However, due to Monarch using Sublimation to travel to other universes to get the Ladybug and Cat Miraculouses from other versions of the heroes, Betterfly was forced to dekamikotize her and kamikotize Ladybug instead. She was then kamikotized a fourth time to really open a portal for them.

In "Transmission", in order to allow Marinette to be free to love Adrien, Alya was chosen by Tikki to temporarily wield the Ladybug Miraculous, thus becoming once more the superhero Scarabella.

In "Deflagration" after her secret identity as Scarabella was discovered by Monarch, he formulated a plan to take her Ladybug Miraculous, forcing her to give the Miraculous back to Marinette.

In "Revelation", after Alya was removed from Hoaxer's control by Marinette, she temporarily received the earrings as part of Marinette's plan to stop Hoaxer, once again becoming Scarabella.

In "Re-creation" after Marinette recovered the stolen Miraculous and reforged them following Monarch's defeat, Alya was given back the Fox Miraculous permanently, reunited with Trixx, and became Rena Rouge once again.

In "The Illustrhater", due to the danger that the new holder of the Butterfly Miraculous represents, Marinette officially nominates Alya as her successor, both as Guardian and as the Ladybug Miraculous holder, in case anything happens to her. Not just that, but she has Tikki give Alya a kwagatama so that the latter is able to access her memories as Guardian.

In "Revelator", it's showed that, after getting her Miraculous back, Alya, along with the other secondary heroes of Ladybug's team, was trained to unlock her adult powers, no longer detransforming after using her power. Rena Rouge, also discovers the truth behind Marinette's lie about Monarch's identity during the fight against the titular villain, which causes her to become angry at her best friend for both hiding the truth, especially from Adrien, and for being now forced to keep the secret. However, thanks to Cat Noir's newly unlocked power, Miraculous Cat Noir, the memory of the secret is erased from her.

Personality[]

Alya is very clever, loyal, and supportive towards her friends, like Marinette, whom she often tries to encourage to spend time with her crush, Adrien Agreste. She is a fan of superhero comics, and thus also a fan of Ladybug and Cat Noir, becoming very excited about anything having to do with them and wanting to find out their secret identities.

However, she sometimes goes too far or endangers herself while pursuing information about them, like the time she spied on Chloé's locker in "Lady Wifi". She is also brave, as she is willing to put herself in harm's way to protect other people. She is also shown to be good with children when she babysits her younger sisters and Manon.

As Rena Rouge, she still acts much the same way she does as Alya. She is very excited to be working with the superheroes she admires and sometimes has trouble focusing on the mission as a result.
