Makoto Naegi is the overall main protagonist of the Danganronpa franchise who makes his debut as the main protagonist of the first game in the series Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc and its anime adaptation Danganronpa The Animation and would since then go on to serve as a minor character in Danganronpa Zero, Danagnronpa 2 Goodbye Despair and Danganronpa Another Episode: Ultra Despair Girls and as the false main protagonist of Danganronpa IF.
He is a student of Hope's Peak Academy with the title of Ultimate Lucky Student who was invited to attend after winning a special yearly lottery that allows commoners to attend. He would then go on to be known as the Ultimate Hope after defeating Junko Enoshima.
He returns in Danganronpa 3 The End of Hope's Peak High School as a minor character in Despair Arc, the main protagonist of Future Arc and one of the two main protagonists (alongside Hajime Hinata) in its epilogue Hope Arc.
His most recent appearance is in Danganronpa V3 Killing Harmony appearing as the deuteragonist of the demo version where he acts as a mentor to new protagonist Kaede Akamatsu so he may "pass the torch", but only in the form of one of Tsumugi Shirogane's cosplays in the real game version.
