Maarva Andor is a heroine from the Star Wars franchise, serving as the overarching protagonist and a major character of Season 1 of the 2022 Disney+ series Andor. She is the adoptive mother of rebel hero Cassian Andor. Although her time in the spotlight was brief, she had an extremely important impact on the saga of Star Wars, being the catalyst for one of, if not the very first open revolt against the Empire, a legacy that would profoundly impact her son and those around her, which in turn would shape the galaxy as a whole forever. She is portrayed by Fiona Shaw, who also played Petunia Dursley from Harry Potter film series.

History[]

Before the events of Star Wars: Clone Wars, Maarva and her husband Clem worked as salvagers, discovering and looting destroyed starships. On a operation on the planet of Kenari, she would encounter a Cassian, then just a child. Knowing a grim fate was the only destiny the planet and its people would have, she took Cassian away and from that day forward raised him as her son on the planet Ferrix. Some time later, Clem would be murdered by the Galactic Empire for taking part in a protest against them, an act that would forever boil hatred towards them within Maarva. As Cassian grew and became an adult, the two would continue living together though their time spent with one another grew shorter due to her son's ventures. After imperial forces forcefully took control of Ferrix, Maarva could no longer simply sit idly by, and despite her increasingly fragile health, began making minor oppositions against them. When she died, following the tradition of Ferrix, she left behind a speech recorded beforehand. In the speech, she opened her heart to her friends and fellow denizens, and let forth decades of pent up rage against The Empire. Confessing that even she herself turned a blind eye to their evil, she could do so no longer, and encouraged, successfully, for the people of Ferrix to take a stand against their tyranny and cruelty. The Rix Road Riot began, an event that would alter the course of history itself.
