Synopsis[]
Lacey was signed by WWE in April 2016, and it was months later that she debuted at a live event, competing in a battle royal won by Ember Moon. Lacey competed as a heel at the WrestleMania 33 Ticket Party on November 17, losing to Sarah Bridges in what was Lacey's singles debut.
Lacey's NXT TV debut came in early 2017, losing a tag team match to Billie Kay and Peyton Royce, and later losing to Nikki Cross in singles action. On the May 3 edition of NXT, Lacey participated in a #1 Contender's Battle Royal, where she and Sonya Deville were both eliminated by Kay and Royce. A brief feud between the two began and was culminated two weeks later on the program, with Lacey displaying a heel persona en route to losing to Deville.
Lacey was announced as one of the 32 competitors in the inaugural Mae Young Classic, where she defeated Taynara Conti in the first round on August 28. Lacey turned heel in a post-match interview, displaying arrogance over her first round victory and demeaning her eventual second-round opponent, Toni Storm, who she would lose to on September 4. After acting as a babyface on NXT TV through most of 2017, Lacey regained her villainous persona on the January 17, 2018 edition of NXT, where she defeated Aliyah in singles action. Following her victory, the evil Lacey cemented her heel turn with a promo disparaging the NXT Women's division, namely Ember Moon, Nikki Cross and Kairi Sane. She was interrupted by Shayna Baszler, who attacked Aliyah after Lacey left.
Lacey's feud with Kairi continued with a loss to Kairi on the post-Takeover edition of NXT on January 31. After back and forth attacks toward each other, a rematch took place on May 23, with Lacey winning.
