Appearance[]
Kei is a teenage girl wearing a red top and skirt with matching red shoes and black stockings. Her hair flows to the right and is dark blue in color.
Personality[]
Kei is a good-natured, efficacious, and considerate girl. She's very graceful, and she's genuinely wants to learn more about Maken and become his friend from the very beginning of the game. She is a loving and caring character. She tearfully cries out for her if Maken sacrifices herself for her, fulfilling her promise in True Good ending despite her father's wishes.
She also has her determination as she is not afraid to wield her magical sword to save her father, even if it means risking her own life. She also seems to share this trait from her mother, who was a wind fighter. She is also very dedicated. If Maken chooses to save Kei without sacrificing himself, Kei expresses her disappointment in Maken for saving her over her father.
She is very human, has a general honesty about her humanity, and feels sympathy for the sacrifices other characters in the game have to make, especially the Wind Fists. This is reflected in her conversation with Maken regarding humanity. Because of this, she will question Maken if he holds an opposing view of humanity or lacks empathy. She is also not afraid to scold him if he does something she deems objectionable, such as her magic fist attacking a fukenshi.
She is very studious and despite her age she is well versed in image theory and engineering and dreams of becoming a researcher like her father.
History[]
Kei Sagami is the daughter of Hiromitsu Sagami and the mother of an unnamed Kazekenshi. While she was visiting a research institute developing Maken, she was attacked by Hakke Andrey and became involved in the Maken project. In this attack, Andrey receives the Maken and kills Lee Fei Chao, who was supposed to use it. Kei wields her magic fist to save her father, but in doing so, her image is absorbed into her magic fist.
After defeating Hakke Andrey, Kei's body was left in the laboratory while Maken traveled to rescue her father. However, her consciousness appears in the minds of Maken and the others, and they share the same sight. Therefore, she serves as Maken's only partner throughout the story.
Throughout her story, Kei expresses her own views on humanity and the characters they meet, while asking Maken's opinion about humanity. She also comments in support or criticism of Maken's decisions during the stages. However, over time, her health gradually deteriorated, she began to cough, and she could no longer stand up. In a cutscene in her story, it is revealed back at the Institute that her image slowly merges with Maken's and that her own life has been whittled down on a spiritual level.
Eventually Kei completely loses her consciousness and from then on, Maken's future decisions and her past decisions will determine her fate. She is saved by the game's saving system, sacrifice, and good ending. Otherwise, her image will be completely absorbed by Maken and she will die as a result. However, she promises that if one condition is met, she will travel around the world with the magic sword before she loses consciousness.
In the ending that saves Sagami, both images are completely fused and her body becomes Maken's.
In the ending that saves Kei, her image is separated from Maken at the Kanazawa Institute, but she expresses her disappointment in Maken for not saving her father.
In her sacrifice route, she has her body taken away by the Sangyekai and is trapped inside a crystal in the Forbidden City. Kou Yamashiro, who controls her magic sword, initiates Reverse Brain Jack and revives her. With the power of her Maken, she defeats Mr. Meteor, but she tearfully thanks the crumbling Maken, and she promises that he will never forget her sacrifice.
In the good ending, she is revived by her father after Maken returns to the institute to celebrate his return with Kou. In the True Good Ending epilogue, Kei meets Maken, who had been secretly sealed away, and she releases it to fulfill her promise to travel around the world with Maken.
