King Jerrod is one of the minor characters in the Mortal Kombat video game series, and has deceased by the time of main MK storyline.

Jerrod is voiced by Jamieson Price as a part of Ermac.

Biography[]

Original timeline[]

After Edenia's warriors lost in the Mortal Kombat, he was once the King of Edenia before he was tragically killed by the evil warlord of Outworld, Shao Kahn.

While his wife, Queen Sindel and his only daughter, Princess Kitana, are both captured by Shao Kahn. Soon after, Jerrod died in Shao Kahn's hands made a profound impact in Sindel and Kitana's long lives in the franchise. His appearance is unknown because it has never been clearly shown in the game, but because he is from Edenia, he is assumed to be human and has lived for a long time.

A statue of a beheaded can be found in Edenia in Mortal Kombat: Deception's Konquest mode. The face looks like a bearded man. When Shujinko talks to nearby Edenians, they say: "This statue is King Jerrod, who ruled Edenia many thousands of years ago."

Second timeline[]

In this timeline, it is mentioned that Jerrod was a philanthropic king of Edenia, who felt that his position did not mean put the royal family above Outworlders. However, events play out similarly for Jerrod during Shao Kahn's takeover, leading to his death.

In Mortal Kombat 9's Ermac ending, it is revealed that Jerrod is one of the many Edenian souls that comprise his being. After Ermac is freed from Shao Kahn, Jerrod's soul is strong enough to assert himself, and reunites with his family. In Mortal Kombat 11: Aftermath, it is revealed that in this timeline, while Jerrod's death was ordered by Shao Khan, Sindel was the one to kill him, as she felt Shao Kahn was a stronger husband.

New Era[]

In the New Era Jerrod and Sindel were never conquered by Shao, and they had two daughters, Mileena and Kitana. He and Fire God Liu Kang became friends and set a martial arts tournament between Earthrealm and Outworld to ensure peace between the Realms. At some point, however, Jerrod was murdered and the soul would rest in the Living Forest. Jerrod's peace would be disturbed when Ermac was created from the souls of the Living Forest, including him. When Kenshi and Ashrah defeated Ermac, his soul briefly manifested on his face, shouting for Sindel before Ermac collapses. However, Ermac's main hivemind retook control from then on.

Jerrod managed to fully return when Mileena battled Ermac, and she unknowingly broke the spell that bound Ermac's souls together, which allowed Jerrod to become the primary spirit within. He revealed the truth to Mileena and Tanya, leading to an emotional reunion with his daughter. He explains that Ermac was constructed using souls from the Living Forest, which is why he was able to return. Jerrod also questions Tanya's new position as Umgadi and learns about Li Mei's plight, but reveals that his murder was not Li Mei's fault. Before he can explain further, Mileena insists they can discuss it another time, and Jerrod levitates them all so they can regroup with the others. Jerrod shares another heartfelt reunion with Kitana and Sindel and greets his old friend Liu Kang. Afterwards, the heroes proceed deeper into the fortress.

Jerrod participates in the ambush on Shang Tsung and Quan Chi, but is taken aback along with the others upon discovering Shang Tsung's benefactor is an alternate Shang Tsung, who was the greatest enemy of Liu Kang. After "Titan" Shang Tsung and Dark Geras depart, Jerrod joins the others in an uphill battle against Dark Sindel and Dark Raiden, who prove themselves difficult opponents. When Mileena is blasted away by Dark Raiden, Jerrod goes to check on her, only to discover Mileena had become afflicted with Tarkat. However, Mileena is able to control her disease and uses her frenzy to defeat Dark Raiden. Dark Sindel knocks everybody to the ground with a powerful assault, but Sindel manages to rise and temporarily gains the upper hand against her villainous self before being mortally wounded by a surprise attack. Jerrod rushes to her side while Mileena tags in and kills Dark Sindel. Unfortunately for the royal family, Sindel is already too far gone, but is pleased to have spent a few more hours with Jerrod, which he promises to cherish. Jerrod watches as Sindel passes away, but not before crowning Mileena Empress of Outworld in her stead. He closes her eyes, but is surprised to find purple wisps of energy passing from Sindel's body to his, realizing it was the doing of Ermac's powers. He explains to the others that thanks to these abilities, he was able to collect Sindel's soul and preserve it within Ermac, just as his was when Ermac was first created.

The heroes flee the fortress, observing from afar as the dragon army begins marching outside. Realizing they cannot defeat such an overwhelming force on their own, they ponder on how to match Titan Shang Tsung in battle, before the current Shang Tsung suggests the possibility of more than two timelines existing - that infinite timelines exist as a result of time's collapse. Kitana in turn suggests they press this potential advantage by gathering allies from these timelines to build their own army, though Liu Kang is unsure if the timelines still exist, and Jerrod worries that banking their survival on such a guessing game may be wasting their time. Geras, however, believes that if Liu Kang regains his powers as Keeper of Time, he may be able to make such a search.

Thus, the group splits up - Liu Kang and Geras return to the Fire Temple to begin the restoration of Liu Kang's power, while Jerrod and the others move to disrupt Titan Shang Tsung's army by attacking the multitude of portals constructed in order to transport them. Using their telekinetic powers, Jerrod and Kenshi bombard the army with massive chunks of rock. Jerrod would act as a advisor for Mileena when she became Empress. In Sindel's ending, it was mentioned that while Jerrod and Sindel had reunited within Ermac, they were forced to combat the many other souls before they could govern Ermac.
