History[]
Bernhard im Schatten[]
Irisdina was the child of a diplomat and Jürgen Bernhard's only sister. Irisdina and her older brother developed a very strong bond because her parents were not at home.
Irisdina was very popular at her school. Irisdina was a natural school idol because she was charismatic and worked hard at everything she did. Her status as one of her top students was virtually unchallenged until she met Beatrix Brehme.
Irisdina's favorite hobby was collecting tea utensils.
Schwarzesmarken[]
A decorated war hero of the Polish Retreat Army, who doubted that her exemplary leadership and tactical skills were some of the main reasons for the squadron's continued survival and success on the battlefield. She believes in leading by example and in battle she is the first to join the fight.
Irisdina sold her brother to the Stasi and received a large reward from her government, but it also caused her to distance herself from her people. In fact, she is involved in a plot planned by certain factions and members of the police service and the East German government to overthrow the Stasi and its communist leaders in order to reunite West and East Germany.
A shining pillar of hope for East Germany's common people and soldiers alike, Irisdina Bernhard recognized her ability to influence the future of her country and rose to power to strengthen East Germany and turn it into a world power. secretly worked to build up his position. That she deserves to stand next to the West and maintain its independence from the Soviet Union. All of her actions, including developing and training the elite 666th TSF Squadron and volunteering for "suicide" missions such as Operation Laser Jagged and Operation Neptune, were undertaken to produce pilots who could not only survive, but thrive. She goes to the battlefield and shows the world what East Germany is capable of.
However, while many believed that Irisdina was the linchpin of the squadron and the entire rebellion that followed, it was the very foundations she laid before the events of Schwarzesmarken that rendered her powerless. It was to ensure there were other people who could take over for her even if personal mission. Katia Waldheim's unexpected but welcome arrival sparks the events the Rebellion has been waiting for. That was sufficient justification for overthrowing the government, an event that the feared Stasi had not yet followed. Lise's betrayal of the squadron was not entirely unexpected, and despite putting the rebels in a difficult position, Irisdina's plan to train her pilots well and trust their individual abilities paid off. Theodore Eberbach, Gretel Jeckeln, and Katia Waldheim managed to survive. Despite being outnumbered and technologically disadvantaged, he escapes captivity only to return to rescue his comrades from captivity.
However, their opponent was the wise Beatrix Brehme, and Irisdina's reputation made her a prime target for the rebels to retake her to use as a rallying point for victory. This could not be allowed if the government forces wanted to avoid fighting. Both the people and the NVA. So when Theodor Eberbach went to look for Irisdina in the cell block of the base, he returned empty-handed, as the Schwarzesmarken commander had already been transferred elsewhere. Irisdina remained resolute in the face of her opposition, despite the fact that she was forced to endure torture and isolation by Beatrix during her captivity. She refuses to reveal details of the mutiny or the pilot's whereabouts, and thanks to Beatrix's orders not to leave any "permanent" damage on her body, Irisdina is exposed to the Stasi's worst interrogation techniques.
After the rebels obtained the location of Irisdina's prison cell, Theodor Eberbach launched a rescue operation, and the remaining pilots of the 666th Division engaged a werewolf battalion in East Berlin. The two had a brief but heartfelt reunion, which was broadcast around the world as part of Operation St. Ursula. She was soon spirited away to the Rebel base, where her grave injuries were attended to by her doctor, all the while Theodor began to relate the events that led to her rescue. Iris Dina lost her friend and she was clearly sad, but she hid it well from Theodore's eyes. She said she was not afraid of dying because she believed that the 666th would come for her. Irisdina went with her to her family's villa once the war was over, where she reminded Theodor that she would eventually reciprocate his feelings.
Unfortunately for her, a bloody civil war prevented Irisdina from escaping her control. While Theodor engaged Beatrix Brehme, Heinze Axmann infiltrated the rebel army with the intention of assassinating Katia Waldheim as a last resort to break the will of the opposition movement. Irisdina bravely stands in front of him, and he shoots her, fatally wounding her in the abdomen, but Axemann is grateful for letting her live a little longer and killing her "easily." He said it was her reward.
Irisdina, always selfless, asked those around her not to be sad because her role was over. She asked what happened to Beatrix and she was relieved to finally hear that she did not suffer. Her final request was to see a unified Berlin with the wall torn down by people on both sides.
Her last words were a sense of relief that her dream of dividing Germany had come true. Irisdina passed away peacefully in Theodore's arms while completing her flight across her unified capital. Irisdina continued to visit Theodore in her dreams long after getting wounded in a gunshot against her deceased killer, Heinz Axmann and her death, and she brought some comfort to him, who still had much to ask her. Her image remained a powerful motif for East Germany's reformed government and military, as well as for the common people of both Germanys. In a way, her death further immortalizes her as one of the legends who brought freedom to her people from oppression and ushered in a new independent East Germany that could cooperate not only with the Warsaw Pact but also with the European Union.
