Hibana (in Japanese: 緋花 meaning "Scarlet Flower") is a kunoichi hired by the government tasked with eliminating members of the Nakatomi Conglomerate. She is the main protagonist of Nightshade (2003). Hibana is a tired young woman working for the Japanese government. Although Hibana is not an official shinobi, she was born into the main family of the Oboro Clan. She was left in the care of the Mukuro clan from an early age, where she received guidance from her master, Jimushi, and honed her ninja skills. She successfully accomplishes her mission while Hibana ruthlessly ignores her superiors. After a failed attempt by the Nakatomi Conglomerate to obtain a fragment of the ancient demonic blade Akujiki, Hibana is ordered to retrieve the fragment and destroy the Hellspawn, which has wreaked havoc on Tokyo.
