Guntz, also known as Gantz, is a wolf and the anti-hero from the Klonoa series, first appearing in Klonoa 2: Dream Champ Tournament. He is a legendary bounty hunter with a very short temper, and a somewhat aggressive and arrogant personality. Gantz is sometimes called the Golden Killer or Golden Death, he's the son of Butz, the friendly rival of Klonoa, and the arch-enemy of Butz's friend-turned-killer, Janga.

Appearance[]

Guntz is a black-and-gold wolf with a sleek, slightly sharper appearance compared to Klonoa. His fur is primarily black with striking yellow markings, and he has sapphire-blue eyes, large ears, and a short tail. His long black hair, matching the color of his fur, is typically tied into a ponytail.

His outfit reflects a youthful rebellious spirit, his clothes drawing inspiration from the teenage greaser movement from the 1950s. He sports a grey, jumpsuit-like outfit with a bandolier strapped around his waist, layered with a bold red long-sleeved jacket. His accessories include white gloves with long cuffs that extend to his elbows, sturdy black boots with red straps and white soles, and a pair of brown circular goggles with pale blue lenses, adding to his rugged yet effortlessly cool and dashing aesthetic.

Personality[]

Guntz’s early experiences have led him to adopt a solitary lifestyle. His youthful arrogance makes him prone to looking down on anyone he deems inferior, which has consistently hampered his ability to connect with others. This was evident during the Dream Champ Tournament, where he regarded Klonoa, Lolo, Popka, and Chipple with a cold detachment that only served to irritate them. In a particularly cunning move, he allied himself with Garlen—striking a deal that involved kidnapping Lolo to best Klonoa in battle—only to be betrayed and nearly turned into a prisoner by the very man he trusted.

Outside of conflict, a different side of Guntz emerges. He often appears noticeably reserved and awkward around girls, while maintaining a more rational and detached manner with his male counterparts. Even though he prefers to keep most people at arm’s length, his loyalty as a friend is unmistakable, despite the occasional flare of a short temper that hints at his ongoing struggle to balance his impetuous nature with the responsibilities of growing up.
