Fujiwara no Sai is one of the main protagonists in the Hikaru no Go series. He is the soul of the deceased Go prodigy of the Heian period, first inhabiting the body of Honinbo Shuusaku and playing Go through him, and later inhabiting the body of Hikaru Shindo, giving him fame, closest to the hand of God.

Appearance[]

Sai's spirit is represented as a tall and very beautiful man with very long black-purple hair tied with a white ribbon, purple eyes, and purple lipstick.

He wears a karagino set consisting of a tateeboshi, a red-purple kimono and a white haori, which corresponds to the casual clothes of a courtier in the Heian period. And wear white tabi socks. He has red earrings on his ears. The folding fan he is holding looks like a dance fan. Many people think of him as a girl.

Personality[]

Sai is a very emotional person, often acting childish and having a lot of emotional ups and downs. While playing the game, the rhino's behavior changes completely as you play full force, controlling yourself and your emotions. However, when it's not a serious match, it can be very hilarious.

Although his abilities are top-notch, he never treats others as if they are inferior to him, even if he doesn't hear compliments. His feelings for Go can only be described as an obsession.

History[]

He was born sometime during the Heian period of Japan (794 AD to 1185 AD).

Little is known about his childhood, but it is speculated that Sai was a prodigy at the game of Go, eventually gaining a seat in the imperial court and becoming one of the emperor's two masters of the game at the time. It is

Nearing the end of Sai's short life, another teacher decided that there should be only one teacher and challenged Sai to a game to see who would hold the position. The two sides were evenly matched, and during play Sai realized that he had cheated by placing an extra stone in the pile of stones his opponent had won. Sai was about to point out cheating, but another player pushed the same allegation against Sai, who in turn was wrongfully accused of cheating. Both instructors were directly told by the emperor to continue, but Sai, who could not play calmly even after the accusation, lost in favor of the opponent, and was disgraced and expelled from the capital. In despair, he drowned himself in a nearby river two days after leaving. He couldn't find peace, his soul was trapped inside the Go board.

Hundreds of years later, after Sasai is released from the board, he meets Torajiro Kuwabara as a ghost. It is said that Torajiro was originally an excellent Go player, but Kuwabara, who saw through Sai's genius, became a medium and made Sai play Go instead. He quickly made Torajiro one of the top players and won the Honinbo title. However, Torajiro died at the young age of 33 after helping a patient during a cholera epidemic in 1862. Sai was once again trapped in the old Go board as a bloodstain.

He was sealed in the board again and waited over a hundred years until Hikaru found Torajiro's board in his grandfather's hut.
