Ed, mostly nicknamed Double D, is one of the three main characters in Ed, Eddy n Eddy. He is physically the weakest of the Eds, but the most intelligent.
Appearance[]
Edd wears a red T-shirt, purple shorts, long red thigh-high socks, cyan colored shoes with yellow soles, and a black ski hat with two white stripes on each side. At night, Edd wears a yellow dress and always wears a hat. In season 5, he is instead depicted sleeping while drinking a light blue and white nightcap.
He has three black hairs sticking out of her hat in a similar style to Eddy, but hers is directed downwards instead of upwards. His two most notable physical features are his large jaw and the gaps between his teeth.
In the first season, his skin was bright yellow, but gradually became a desert-like sandy beige color. On the cover of Ed, Edd n Eddy - The Mis-Edventures, his eye color is shown to be blue-green. His tongue is mint green in color. In his two frames from "Fool on the Ed" you can see that Ed's eye color is a light green in the first instance and a very bright gold in the second.
In later seasons, Edd wears a yellow tie over his shirt when attending school. When he goes out, he wears a brown cardigan with olive drab trim. When it's snowing, he wears an orange snow jacket, a light green scarf, earmuffs, and purple snow pants with white stripes on each side.
Personality[]
Edd is a very methodical, but kind and well-meaning young man. He is obedient, polite and disciplined, willing to abide by the laws and regulations of his community. His love and desire for order causes him to occasionally take on the role of peacemaker. Although he is incredibly kind and accepting, he can be awkward and timid, especially in interactions with people of the opposite sex. Although he is considered an outcast, as a member of his peer group he is generally well-respected, if not valued, and is willing to give advice and assistance when needed. Through his interactions with the other children in the Cul-De-Sac, it is often suggested that if it wasn't for Ed and Eddy, Ed would have been welcomed into their group. Still, Ed is a perfectionist and wants to please others and meet their needs, so to speak.
Ed is very sensitive and germaphobic, hating any physical activity that could be "harmful", especially pollution. He makes every effort to cleanse the environment and exhibits numerous peculiarities. Among these strange habits, he has a tendency to name all his belongings, to the point that he claims he "cannot rest in an environment without labels." He also has a considerable distaste for sports, likely stemming from an infamous and little-mentioned dodgeball incident from his childhood.
He makes up for his lack of physical strength with his intelligence, and is the complete opposite of Ed, who is dumb but physically strong. Very precocious Ed is a promising young inventor with an interest in science. He is smart and insightful, but his foresight is often denied by the insidious Eddie. At that time he displayed his characteristic nervousness and cynicism, much to the chagrin of his friends. Ed also proved himself to be very brave on many occasions. In "The Day Ed Stood Still", he volunteered to potentially sacrifice himself to compensate for Monster Ed's creation. In the film, he is one of the first people to confront Eddie's brother, who was torturing Eddy.
In early episodes, he was a little more laid-back, more soft-spoken, and much more submissive to Eddy's whims. However, as time passed and his personality expanded, he not only became more understanding and disciplined towards Eddy, but also became more cynical and disobedient towards Eddy. He also started talking more than before. His quirks were also further highlighted, including his intelligence, perfectionism, and obsession with order and cleanliness.
Also, as seen in "Ed in a Half Shell,'' "Too Smart for His Own Ed,'' and "In Like Ed,'' there is a tendency for others to be better than you at what you are good at. It is suggested that he gets angry when he is superior and harbors some sense of superiority.
