Drake is main antagonist-turned-supporting deuteragonist from Zoids: Wild. He is one of the Four Dark Warriors and the pilot of Gilraptor.
Personality[]
Drake is portrayed as a ruthless and arrogant person. But he's actually very subtle. It gradually becomes clear that Drake actually cares a lot about Zoids, but needs to suppress this as they are powerless before the relative power of the Dark Metal Empire, especially Gigaboss. Drake is more aware of what Zoids are thinking than anyone else, and even before he is dug up and revived, he can recognize Zoids by their body parts. Still, he insists that "Zoids are tools," and they are nothing more than weapons to be used.
History[]
Drake makes a brief appearance in episode 2, but doesn't make a noticeable appearance until episode 4. He is a ruthless pilot and is shown to only listen to Gigaboss, the leader of the Empire.
Throughout the series, it is gradually revealed that Drake has a contradictory past. When Drake was young, his parents joined the Dark Metal Empire and brought with them two Ruin Zoids, one white and one red. Because Drake grew up surrounded by Zoids, he has a strong affinity for them, and was especially saved by the white Ruin when he was a child. His parents thought the Dark Metal Empire was the right place.
However, they soon realized that they had made a terrible mistake. The parents ordered the two Zoids to leave with Drake, but the escape plan failed. Drake was given an ultimatum to destroy one of the Zoids. Drake is having trouble making a choice and tries to choose the red Zoid. However, a white Zoid jumps in instead and saves Drake, getting scrapped in the process.
With no other choice, Drake joins the Dark Metal Empire with the remaining red Zoids.
He spent the next years treating Ruin as a weapon rather than a partner, and spent much of his series urging both Ruin and himself to try to defeat Storm and Liger. He acts this way for most of the series up until episode 46. Here he again faces his ultimatum. It's either defeat Liger or become bait for his demise. Drake confronts Arashi, but he is unable to defeat him. He pushes Ruin too far and destroys the hacker's key. Unable to fight anymore, Ruin becomes "free" and no longer a property of the Dark Metal Empire. But don't run away from Drake. He stays anyway and confronts Arashi. At this point, Drake realized the bond that was forming between him and Ruin. Ruin gives Drake a Zoid Key, allowing him to use Wild Blast.
After this, he leaves the ranks of the Dark Metal Empire and fights Gigaboss with four other dark warriors, eventually joining the final battle against Demise.
In the Japanese version, Drake joins Team Freedom after the series ends.
