Biography[]
At the age of 12, Kent Nelson traveled to the Valley of Ur with his father, Sven. Sven depletes the Nelson family's savings to fund this trip, making him a laughing stock in the process. Nelson and Sven discover an ancient tomb filled with ancient writings. However, Naboo, one of the Lords of Order who was bound in the false body, ordered Kent to pull a nearby lever, which released poisonous gas and killed Sven. In return, Nabu endowed Nelson with arcane knowledge, rebuilding him physically and mentally to the best of his abilities, and transforming him into a being of pure order. Nabu orders the fake body to be destroyed, but Nelson reluctantly complies and blows it up, revealing the helmet hidden inside. Naboo and Nelson became great heroes and a force behind the order of the known universe. He was also a founding member of the Justice Society of America, and used the code name "Doctor Fate" from that time on. Dr. Fate met Inthe Cramer after saving her from a supervillain known as Wotan. Eventually, Kent took a job as a doctor to become financially independent, and Inza became her nurse to be closer to Kent. Eventually, despite Nabu's objections, they got married.
Kent Nelson, a powerful magician, wears the Helm of Fate and sees the fate of all humanity, for better or for worse. He knows the world will end at the hands of Brainiac or a war between Batman and Superman. The helm forces Kent to abide by this harsh fate in the name of order, but Kent's humanity compels him to intervene and risk unforeseen consequences for the sake of his heroic friends.
Injustice 2[]
Doctor Fate first appears in Gorilla City after the married heroes Green Arrow and Black Canary confront Society members Catwoman, Bane, and Gorilla Grodd. He attempts to warn the heroes of impending doom and that Brainiac is order against the chaos caused by Earth's inhabitants. After being defeated by the two heroes, Kent loses control of Nabu, but explains that he cannot help because he has "changed his destiny too many times." He then leaves, saying that he cannot stop it and that their fate is in God's hands.
Much later, Kent is seen walking through a nearly destroyed Metropolis with Nabu's helmet in his arms. He approaches her dying citizen and offers her hand to help her, but is rejected by Nabu as she (her citizen) and the rest of humanity are doomed to perish. Kent begins to question the moral choices made by Lord, and is forced to take action to stop those who stand in the way of Earth's destruction, as long as he wears Nabu's costume.
His last appearance is a fight between him and Superman on Brainiac's ship. He is defeated and Superman destroys the helmet that was controlling Kent. The Lord's voice disappears, and Kent agrees to work with the loosely assembled League of Superheroes to stop the invasion. Shortly after warning that forcing the Lord's actions could spread chaos throughout the universe, he was stabbed through the chest by Brainiac and sucked into the lining of the ship's wall. Raiden's arcade ending confirms his death.
