The Criminal Investigation Department is a mysterious organization in the Psycho-Pass universe. This is the department within the Public Safety Bureau that manages crime. Its members work under three different groups: Inspectors, enforcers, and analysts. Due to the increasing performance of various drones and self-driving systems for cars, there are fewer police officers in traffic divisions.
Overview[]
Psychopathy is an actual psychological designation given to a person based on various measurements of that person's psychology and personality to assess mental stability and measure criminal potential. Even if they have not actually committed a crime, if they exceed a certain threshold, they are branded as latent criminals and are removed from general society to protect the public.
However, those who are judged to have high criminality and are likely to become criminals will be offered release in exchange for their duties as enforcement officers. Their high criminal nature makes them ideal for the task of solving criminal cases with high efficiency while understanding the psychology of criminals and analyzing crime scenes. It also provides the protection of inspectors who instead use bailiffs to prevent psychopath clouding in dangerous situations.
Inspectors are empowered to monitor activity on site because it poses a potentially serious threat. If the Bailiff attempts to flee, it is the Inspector's duty to take such enforcement action as Sybil deems appropriate through the Dominator. There are also cases where inspectors are demoted, such as Shinya Kogami. After Mitsuru Sasayama's death, his psychopathy skyrocketed and he was immediately demoted to the position of executive officer. Nobuchika Ginoza and Kaname Shinjo also met this fate.
Hue Checks & Wristlinks[]
Color is a visual representation of a psychopath, indicating when the subject is happy, sad, angry, or depressed in relation to time. CID relies on street scanners that scan individuals for psychopaths with graphs that provide hue ratings and crime coefficients and a history of those values. You can also use Dominator, which calculates such values on the fly. Processing Hue results in different colors. People with the best hue display bright colors like pink, powder blue, and light purple, while people with poor hue display darker colors like yellow-green, steel blue, and forest green until they eventually cloud. It turns black beyond recognition. However, criminally asymptomatic individuals always have a pure white hue.
The PSB is a wristwatch with multiple functions, including making and receiving phone calls, projecting a holographic keyboard, sending information and emails, connecting to department systems, controlling drones, processing basic analysis of case evidence, and storing information. It uses a special holo-device called Link. The Enforcer's wrist links are difficult to remove to prevent escape.
