Choromatsu Matsuno (松野チョロ松 Matsuno Choromatsu) is a major character in the 1960s comedy manga series Osomatsu-kun, as well as it's 2010s comedy anime sequel-spinoff Osomatsu-san. Alongside his five brothers, he is one of the focal characters of the series. His name derives from that of an Edo-era nickname used for fast-running and foolish children, along with the onomatopoeia チョロチョロ (chorochoro, to rush).

In Osomatsu-kun, he was first voiced by Keiko Yamamoto and currently by Haruko Kitahama in 1966, formerly by Rica Matsumoto and by Megumi Hayashibara in the 1988, who also voiced Sailor Galaxia in Sailor Moon Cosmos. In Osomatsu-san, he was voiced by Hiroshi Kamiya in 2015 in the Japanese version, and by Sean Chiplock in the American English version, who also voiced Shun Imai in Odd Taxi and Noob Saibot in Mortal Kombat 11.

Appearance[]

In Osomatsu-kun, Choromatsu appears identically to all of his brothers, sporting the same yellow-buttoned, blue outfit and dull blue-gray pants with brown shoes. His irises are black and he has a recognizable bowl cut with two cowlicks, traits they also all share. Later in life, in Osomatsu-san, Choromatsu becomes more distinct as an adult: though the brothers all sport identical outfits that match their original series designs rather accurately (the pants are more gray, and a dress shirt underneath is more distinct and dons a tie), each brother more typically wears a color-specific hoodie throughout much of the series. In Choromatsu's case, his distinctive color is green. His mouth is typically in a downwards-V shape, and he generally has a slightly nervous or cautious air to him, reflecting his role as more 'serious' and 'concerned' in comparison to his brothers.

Personality[]

Choromatsu, like his brothers, is not the most upstanding nor moral person. He often causes petty problems and has few real aspirations, being a shut-in NEET. While this is the case, he does often attempt to act as the voice of reason among the brothers: even if partially this is just an excuse for him to masquerade as superior, he does take some level of concern and responsibility for the group.

He's most well-known for his comparatively less-eccentric, more reserved personality compared to the brothers, acting as a straight man to them on many occasions. This can either manifest as helping them with whatever trouble they can get into, or at times, being the one to caution them away from it. He's susceptible to his vices like the rest, especially his not-well-hidden secret of being an otaku. He can be thought of as the nerdiest of the brothers for this, as well. Choromatsu is enamored with a cat-themed idol in particular, Nyaa Hashimoto (voiced by Cherami Leigh), though he shares the affinity for fish-themed idol Totoko (voiced by Cassandra Lee Morris) they all have as well.
