Chen (Touhou)

Chen is one of the the recurring characters of the Touhou Project series.

Appearance[]

Chen has dark brown eyes, brown hair, and wears a green mob cap. She has black cat ears, a gold earring on her left side, and two tails. Her dress is red with a white ribbon on her collar and her hem has gold trimmings and pale pink ruffles. Her dress sleeves are pale pink. She wears socks and has long hot pink nails.

Personality[]

Chen's personality towards people she doesn't know well is usually a bit stiff and awkward, trying to live up to the reputation that Yakumo's name gives him as a shikigami of Ran Yakumo and as a shikigami of Ran Yakumo, the shikigami of Yukari Yakumo. However, as she gets to know someone, she lets her guard down and her age begins to show and she becomes more and more childish. She likes fish and cat teasing, but when she's especially off guard, she's easily distracted by teasing and the like. Once she gets to know someone, she's basically warm and friendly, but until then, she tries to stay aloof and formal to live up to the Yakumo name. She is very surly when she is with Yukari and Ran, and unless specifically directed to do so, she tends to behave like a mix between a small child and a normal cat.

Abilities[]

Her ability is also demonstrated in her game, and her characteristic is that she runs around the screen freely, so much that it is hard to believe that she is a boss in a shooting game. A normal cat might be considered cute, but its speed and deceptive movements make it a bit difficult to handle as it can confuse opponents. The way she spins and attacks is similar to her master.

Witchcraft[]

Chen in shikigami state is in a very dangerous state and can use various magics. She's very similar to sleight of hand, using techniques focused on her speed and precise, tricky moves to confuse her opponents. For example, she can appear to dash to her left, but instead attack from her right, moving so quickly that it appears teleportation to humans.

Surprising people[]

When she becomes a normal Bakeneko, she becomes more wild and resorts to more physical attacks, such as biting and scratching with her long claws. Rather than saying that she has a special ability to surprise people who accompany her, the implication is that she can only do so much. This is the same ability as Kogasa Tatara, and there is interaction in this regard.
