Nino Lahiffe, known as Carapace is one of the deuteragonists of Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug and Cat Noir. In the season 2 episode "Anansi", he receives the Turtle Miraculous which, when inhabited by Wayzz, can transform him into Carapace, a turtle-themed superhero.
He was voiced by Benjamin Diskin for Seasons 1 through 3 and currently voiced by Zeno Robinson for Miraculous New York and onwards.
Appearance[]
Nino is tall, with short dark brown hair, tan skin, and amber eyes. He dresses in skate punk fashion, typically seen with headphones around his neck and a cap on his head.
As Carapace, he wears a dark-green full body suit with a hood and a chestpiece consisting of light-green hexagons. The suit also has even darker green areas on the knees, arms and shoulders.
Personality[]
Nino is fun-loving, enthusiastic, friendly, and compassionate. He enjoys being a DJ at parties and hanging out with friends. He is described as "a caring friend with a strong sense of right and wrong". Noticing when someone, like Adrien, is upset, he does what he can to comfort them or cheer them up. If he has a vision for something, he stays dedicated to it, sometimes rather stubbornly. But if things don't go in the fashion he wants them to, it exasperates and upsets him. He is more than willing to argue his point, though he is able to change his opinions on situations or particular people. Nino becomes frustrated if he sees something that he considers unfair, like when Adrien's father won't allow Adrien to have a birthday party. However, he doesn't hold grudges for long, and whether by choice or not, he will help others when they ask for it.
However, he tends to act nervous in certain situations, as seen in "Animan" when he tried to ask Marinette on a date and when he stuttered at the sight of being posted on Alya's Ladyblog. He also has some knowledge of how things work in certain situations like in "Horrificator" or "Anansi".
Like Alya, he can be caught up in the moment or excitement of things. However, unlike Alya, he can calm himself down enough to realize reality as he doesn't hesitate on returning the Turtle Miraculous.
When it comes to those he cares about he is brave and loyal, refusing to leave them behind, as seen in "Simon Says", where he didn't want to leave without Adrien, and in "Anansi", when he was even willing to fight against the titular villain to save Alya or staying with her when she's infected in "Zombizou". He is also protective of his brother Chris, running all over the city to find him in "Christmaster". He can become doubtful of his abilities at times but takes advice from others very well.
Also, he seems to be very attached to his signature red cap, as seen in "Chameleon", when it is taken from him by the titular villain and is later reassured by Alya that he looks fine without it.
However, during part of season 4 (starting from "Rocketear") and season 5 as a whole, the negative aspects of Nino are manifested, which is shown in "Rocketear" where he can sometimes be very insecure, especially when it comes to his relationship with Alya. After noticing that Alya was evasive and kept secrets, not to mention her apparent attention to Cat Noir, combined with a scene from a film where Rena Rouge tells Cat Noir, Nino comes to suspect that there may be something between them and follows Alya to confirm his suspicions. This insecurity on his part leads him to misunderstand the situation and to believe that they are together. This is also shown in "Risk" where he decides not to listen to Marinette when she tells them that Adrien no longer wants to be a model.
He can be insensitive and act without thinking, as seen in "Illusion", where he chooses to humiliate Gabriel in the middle of a parent-teacher meeting, and he did not think about his actions and at the end of the episode, he invites Lila into the Resistance.
It can sometimes be involved in plans created by Nathaniel and Marc, which is shown in "Transmission", "Perfection" and "Protection".
He is sometimes mocking, which is shown in "Emotion", where he makes fun of Marinette by saying that she should be aware of Adrien. This is also shown in "Revelation" where he believes Lila and despises Marinette and Adrien.
In spite of his flaws, Nino can be regretful for his actions. It was seen in "Confrontation", when Nino found out that Lila was a liar all along, Nino, in the deleted scenes, apologized to Marinette, showing that he is not above apologizing whenever he's wrong. In "Revolution", "Representation", "Conformation" and "Re-creation", he showed that even though he doesn't powers, Nino can be very brave, when facing Chloé Bourgeois and her tyranny, Nightormentor and Miraculized army during Monarch's final days. In "Representation", when Marinette is heartbroken by Adrien's departure from Paris, Nino compassionately comforts her and assures her that they'll find a way to visit him.
As Carapace, most of Nino's personality remains the same, like his willingness to help others and bravery, although he forgets to speak in a formal manner, calling Ladybug "dude" or "dudette" instead of Ladybug. According to one of Alya's Instagram photos, he is also a bit camera shy. With and without his powers Nino retains his loyalty and willingness to help his leader such as creating the resistance in "Illusion".
But in being around Alya, he did get a taste of her impulsiveness falling for the same trick she did back in "Optigami".
As the Bubbler, he became less caring and more aggressive, being much wilder and louder than normal. Although one of his intentions was to let Adrien have the birthday party that he never got, he also despised adults and used his powers to get rid of them. His hatred could extend to his peers if they defied his orders. If anyone didn't listen to him, they got trapped in a bubble. His rage even proved to be an issue for Hawk Moth when he trapped Ladybug and Cat Noir and sent them into the sky instead of taking their Miraculouses.
As Shell Shock, his personality as Carapace seemed to inverse, making him cruel and aggressive.
As Oblivio, he and Alya became incredibly arrogant and conceited in their own abilities, erasing people's memories on a whim and taunting Ladybug and Cat Noir constantly after doing the same thing to them. However, they were easily frustrated as well, growing angrier and angrier while trying and failing to track down Ladybug and Cat Noir after they detransformed.
As Rocketear, he was vengeful towards Cat Noir for what he believed was Alya cheating on him with Cat Noir. He also cared about others who cared about him such as Adrien and Alya, who weren't considered his enemies. He tried to destroy Cat Noir mainly, rather than get the Miraculouses or destroy Ladybug. However, when Ladybug stopped him from causing any more harm to Cat Noir, he then aimed to destroy her as well until he saw the video he recorded being projected with the audio being added by Rena Furtive without him knowing. This caused him to give up his vengeance and reject Shadow Moth's akumatization.

Season 1[]
In "The Bubbler", he is influenced by Hawk Moth and becomes the supervillain called The Bubbler.
Season 2[]
In "Anansi", Ladybug gives the Turtle Miraculous to Nino to help defeat Alya's older sister Nora, who has been transformed by Hawk Moth into the supervillain Anansi. When Ladybug tricks Anansi into making the Arc de Triomphe crumble, Carapace uses his Shellter superpower to protect himself, Ladybug, Cat Noir and Rena Rouge. After Anansi's defeat, Nino gives the Turtle Miraculous back to Marinette, who returns it to Wang Fu.
Season 3[]
In "Chameleon", during another day at school, Nino got to seat next to Alya. Like everyone else he eagerly welcomed Lila back still believing her stories. While with Alya they were approached by Adrien (who was Chameleon in disguise) who said that he didn't deserve her, the real Adrien's friendship and had his cap stolen dishearten. Afterwards he was comforted Alya by saying he looked better without it but was happy that his hat was returned by the Miraculous Ladybug (superpower). However when Alya saw Marinette sitting alone and asked Miss Bustier if she could have her original seat because she couldn't stop chatting with him he easily understood. And soon he was joined by Adrien then all the other students followed their lead in having their normal seats back and when school was over Nino went home with Alya.
In "Bakerix", Nino was getting ice cream with Alya at Andre's until they were approached by Bakerix. He saw him take away Alya's phone.
In "Gamer 2.0", he along with several others were held captive in their akumatized forms by Gamer. But thanks to Ladybug and Cat Noir he was set free due to the Miraculous Ladybug (superpower).
In "Oni-Chan", while walking to school Nino, came across Lila who was looking sad and asked her what's wrong. Accepted her lie of it being exhausted with her busy schedule.
In "Miraculer", Nino called on to become Carapace once again to help Ladybug and Cat Noir defeat Destroyer and once done he returned the Turtle Miraculous to Ladybug completely aware that their identities must remain a secret. Sometime later he was practicing her synchronization with Alya until the two were called upon again to become their alter egos. During the battle against the titular villain and Mayura, he used his Shell-ter power to defend Ladybug from Miraculer. Knowing where the akuma was Carapace worked with Rena to destroy it. With the whole team they were able to deakumatize Sabrina and prevented Mayura from escaping with the Bee Miraculous and then returned the Turtle Miraculous to Ladybug.
In "Oblivio", during his class field trap to the Tour Montparnasse Nino snuck off with Alya to play to Super Pengiuno in a closest but they were embarrassed about being caught by their friends. Leading them to be akumatized together into Oblivio during their first encounter with Ladybug and Cat Noir they had them pinned down and struck them with their powers but lost sight of them. In their search for the duo, Oblivio couldn't find them anywhere in the building taking Hawk Moth's advice to retrace their steps but still couldn't find the heroes (who had detransformed at the time). Having enough of looking they then tried to flush them out by threatening to erase everyone's memory in Paris. Soon they were met by Ladybug again despite the heroine having her powers back Oblivio was aware she still didn't have her memory or reflexes. Then, had Ladybug under their mercy until Cat Noir entered the fray and had them pinned down like their first encounter.
However, this time by having their hand stuck in a teapot thanks to Ladybug and Cat Noir destroying their blaster, Nino and Alya were deakumatized. Shortly after coming too he and Alya were surprised to see Ladybug and Cat Noir kiss. After the heroes had their memories restored, Nino explained to them that they were Oblivio. Then, returning to the bus Nino and Alya apologized for their actions and was reminded by Ms. Bustier to keep their game playing at home.
In "Party Crasher", Nino worked with his friends to have an all boys party for Adrien after giving their cover excuses to the girls who were planting trees at the Seine, they all left for the Agreste Mansion. After striking a deal with Adrien's bodyguard, Nino and his friends made their way to Adrien's room and commenced their plan until they found out that Marinette crashed the party in disguise. But soon things went from bad to worse when Party Crasher came causing everyone to flee, taking cover and witnessing what happened Nino found a miracle box beside him and became Carapace again to aid Cat Noir along with Pegasus and Viperion. However just as he was about invoke his Shellter power to protect the others he but came the villain's next victim.
Thanks to Viperion's Second Chance, he was saved by Viperion but he and all the other heroes were captured as well until they were freed by a new ally King Monkey. This time before Party Crasher struck again Carapace used his Shellter power to protect the group. By dancing to music the team made their movements unpredictable in doing so they defeated the villain. Afterwards he returned the Turtle Miraculous and returned to the mansion to clean up the aftermath of their party and then he apologized to Marinette for the lies he told and yet she apologizes too. However they both admit that they were trying to do something nice for Adrien after they finished Nino and everyone joined the girls at the Seine.
In "Christmaster", Nino went on a date to the movies with Alya while Marinette watched over his little brother Chris. When he and Alya returned to pick him up, Nino saw that Chris was upset and carried him home. The next day, he discovered that Chris and his toys were gone and left to look for him. Then, was approached by Ladybug and Santa who confirmed for the heroine that Chris was akumatized into Chrismaster. When she summoned her Lucky Charm, Nino was surprised that Ladybug received stationary supplies. Eyeing Santa's bag and asking who was nicest kid in the world, he and Ladybug was surprised to see that Santa Claus' list was exceptional long. And yet, he wasn't surprised that Ladybug was at the top of the list vouching that she had saved Paris multiple times. Then, Nino was assured by Ladybug that she would get back his brother safe and sound, then asked Santa where was he on the list, as he watched Santa scroll through the list he knew it would take while.
Afterwards, he and Alya dropped off Chris at Marinette's house again and thanked her for watching him while they went out.
In "The Puppeteer 2", Nino was hanging out with Alya until he received a call from Adrien being invited to come with him to the Wax Museum bringing her with him and by extension Marinette and Manon. Somehow he figured out that Marinette has a crush on Adrien while at the museum Nino was informed by Alya to deny everything Adrien says in an effort to conceal Marinette's crush. However, in doing so he gave Adrien the false in impression that Marinette hates him soon afterwards he leaves with Manon and Alya to another room. In the midst of playing statues he saw that Alya was a little unnerved about seeing them in their akumatized form.
Until Nino clarified that she needed to look at them in a different perspective seeing them as people Ladybug and Cat Noir saved. After Manon was reakumatized into Puppeteer, Nino was paused frozen by a Lady Wifi wax figurine until he was set free by the Miraculous cure and returned home with Alya.
In "Stormy Weather 2", he and Alya were leaving the school and Alya thought about doing their homework at her house but when Nino tried to turn her down when he wanted to give Adrien a copy of the notes he missed she shot him a stare. Until Marinette stepped in and offered to do it and but before she left the trio saw Chloe bullying Aurore about her not being able to keep up with her school work and her job as well as turning into Stormy Weather again. In her room with Nino, Alya was slightly angry that Chloe caused another akumatized villain reminiscing about the past the two were thankful to Ladybug for bringing them together and for their lives as heroes.
Soon they were interrupted by Ella and Etta who were scared but soon Nora was right behind them grabbing everyone in a bear hug saying she'd protect them knowing that Nino knew they weren't going anywhere. While they were all under a blanket trying to stay warm they continued to watch the heroes fight from the news on her tablet after hearing of Stormy Weather's defeat they all rejoiced.
In "Timetagger", during the evening Nino left for the movies with Alya while thanking Lila for watching over his brother Chris, Etta, and Ella.
In "Reflekdoll", Nino was seen walking with Adrien until they were approached by Alya asking Adrien if he could help with modeling in Marinette's website to which Nino thought was awesome.
In "Ladybug", Nino was in class finishing the mock exams but became shocked that Marinette was accused of cheating and stealing the test but his friends he was aware that she'd never cheat.
In "Startrain", Nino was getting ready for class trip to see Big Ben in London until he met up with Adrien to which he was surprised that his father let him out. But was informed by him that didn't tell his father about this trip to which he found very sneaky and they boarded the train. The trip was mostly peaceful until, Chloe called out about an akuma being on the train so he went to investigate with Alya but didn't find it believing Chloe called a false alarm. However, Nino and the others found out that she was right when it akumatized Max's mother into Startrain and blasted them all up into space. He followed Marinette's lead into stopping her but she caught onto them, then Nino became surprised that Ladybug and Cat Noir arrived and they all followed Miss Bustier to the back of the train.
After the trio defeated Startrain, Nino and his classmates got close up and personal view with Big Ben until they were all set on the ground by Ladybug. Once off Nino saw Adrien's bodyguard and Nathalie aware that this was Adrien's first and last field trip despite that he found the trip fun until they got separated at the end. And yet, Nino remained hopeful that he and Adrien will go on other field trips and boarded by train back to London.
In "Félix", aware that this was the anniversary of his best friend's mother going missing, Nino agreed that everyone sends a video package. However, after hearing Felix disguised as Adrien leave a nasty message. Nino along with Marinette knew that wasn't his best friend realizing that the video was a fake, despite seeing Alya akumatize into Lady Wifi again he tried reason with her, Rose and Juleka into not attacking Adrien but was paused frozen. After being set free by via Miraculous Ladybug (superpower), he along with his friends received a video from Adrien, who explained what happened and received a thanks for him.
In "Cat Blanc", in an alternate he was seen slow dancing with Alya on the Couffaine houseboat. However, due to certain "secrets" being unveiled leading to Cat Noir's akumatization she and everyone on the planet were destroyed but thanks to Ladybug changing the past so did the future.
In "Miracle Queen", Nino was enjoying dinner with Alya and her family and until, he was stung by Miracle Queen's hornets and told to come to the titular villain. But with his Miraculous in use Nino couldn't transform. Afterwards Miracle Queen's defeat, he was returned to normal and brought back home along with Alya as of Ladybug's powers. Then, sometime later, he enjoyed hanging at the Seine with his friends.
Season 4[]
In "Truth", Nino is seen leaving the school with Alya as Marinette goes with Luka on his bike.
In "Lies", Nino is leaving the school along with Alya. Later at the Couffaine Boat, Kitty Section has just finished up one of their songs. While Nino, Kagami, Marinette and Alya are cheering, Nino tells Adrien that he filmed their performance on camera but Adrien notices and states that Nino missed the intro. Ivan and Rose then say that they can replay the song but Kagami informs Adrien that they would need to leave in order to arrive on time for Prince Ali's birthday.
In "Sole Crusher", Nino is seen meeting up with Adrien and doing their handshake inside the school as Chloé mentions to Zoé about having a guy best friend.
In "Queen Banana", Nino is taking charge when it comes to filming the student's movie. At first, Nino is supervising over Nathaniel drawings along with Jean-Pierre. Later, Nino is directing the other students to where they should be in a scene and describes that the entire population is being put into an enchanted sleep then mentions that they will need extras to fill in some roles. Once everyone is put in place, Chloe then arrives on the set, furious that she heard that she was supposed to play a the supervillain while Mylène is the. Nino then attempts to explain that both roles are equally important but is interrupted by Chloé, who just wants to play the superhero. As Chloé calls for her dad, to force the changes she wants, André makes Nino rewrite the script.
Thomas then explains that its not uncommon for writes to adapt the script on the set at the last minute for production reasons and is called a revision. Nino then decides that if it's for the good of the film, that he probably should go along with it and begins filming scene 9 behind a camera. But notices that Chloé is not in her place when she's supposed to be acting. As Chloé starts to describe her idea of a superhero they should add to the movie without it being Queen Bee, Nino again begins to rewrite the script and re-film scene 9. Chloe, complaining once more, ends with Nino having to rewrite the script once more to add on her additions and film scene 9 again. Chloe then states that she doesn't feel the need to save the students taking part in the movie, Nino then claims that they are not going to change anything anymore.
After Adrien is put in place in the helicopter cage, Nino (who is annoyed) then asks if they can finally shoot the scene. Chloé says that they would need a new bad, super-duper-uber villain, which makes Nino bang his head against the camera and puts the pen in his mouth to try and think of how to add her idea into the script. With everyone brainstorming ideas and in frustration, Nino decides that it is just for the good of the film.
In "Sentibubbler", Nino was at Alya's apartment, helping her family to find Hannibal the Spider, Later on, Marinette and Alya go into Alya's bedroom and Nino wanted to go with them but Alya tells him that it's only between her and Marinette. Meanwhile, during Marinette and Alya's conversation Nino gets captured by Sentibubbler.
Season 5[]
In "Jubilation", Carapace is among the superheroes attending Ladybug and Cat Noir's wedding in the dream caused by Gift when they are fighting Darker Owl in reality.
In "Determination", to try and help restore morale to Paris because of losing Carapace and the other heroes, Grevin Museum curator Veronique has a wax figurine of Carapace made, alongside those of the rest of the team, in hopes of helping to boost hope. When Mayor Bourgeois, under Chloe's influence again, refuses to let the figures be displayed, Veronique is akumatized by Monarch into Manipula, bringing the wax figures of Carapace and the others to life to try and make Manipula look like a hero by bringing the team back.
In the season finale, "The Final Day", Nino is part of the Resistance as they fight against the Miraculized as part of Monarch's Operation Perfect Alliance, joined by Grandmaster Su-Han and the Guardians, the United Heroez, and Ladydragon, but it is a losing fight as the Miraculized keep coming. At one point, Nino and Alya manage to rescue Principal Damocles from being a Miraculized, and assuming his identity as The Owl, he joins them in fighting the Miraculized. It is only, as shown in "Miraculous London", when Ladybug uses her Miraculous Ladybug to undo all the damage, that Nino and everyone else are saved as the Miraculized are returned to normal. He later learns that Gabriel Agreste sacrificed himself to end the threat of Monarch for good. After Marinette restores the Miraculous to their original forms, she entrusts Wayzz to Nino permanently, allowing Nino to become Carapace again and join the rest of the restored French Miraculous superhero team to prepare for whatever threats come from the new Hawk Moth in Lila Rossi/Cerise Bianca.
Season 6[]
In "The Illustrhater", Alya and Nino are going to the movies with Marinette and Adrien, but when the bus is stuck on a damaged bridge and it is about to collapse, Marinette and Adrien shield Alya and Nino as they transform into Rena Rouge and Carapace to save the bus. Roger Raincomprix and the Paris first responders thank Rena and Carapace for their efforts, and after retreating to an alleyway to revert back, Alya decides to leave Marinette and Adrien to fend for themselves while she and Nino investigate the new carrier of the Butterfly Miraculous. However, when they interrogate Mayor Bustier, she explains what she was feeling at the time of her akumatization, which was fear and concern for her baby daughter Harmonie, and what she heard before being akumatized, but other than that, and interviewing other victims, they have nothing else to go on. However, when Maya, a young girl turned into the akumatized supervillain Illustrhater, begins causing havoc around Paris with her drawings, Alya and Nino become Rena Rouge and Carapace again, contact Ladybug and Cat Noir to warn them they have an Akumatized villain on the loose, and join them to help stop Illustrhater. It was during the battle that, after Ladybug summons an art supply case as her Lucky Charm, Carapace offers to go fill it up with art supplies for Ladybug to use as a lure to attract Illustrhater to her. While he does that, Ladybug, Cat Noir, and Rena Rouge attempt to get some intel from Illustrhater about Chrysalis, but Chrysalis forbids Illustrhater from telling the Miraculous heroes anything under threat of taking back her powers if she double-crosses Chrysalis. Carapace soon returns with the Lucky Charm full of art supplies, then does as Ladybug orders and withdraws to lure Illustrhater into a false sense of security. With Rena using her Mirage to make Ladybug's attempts to lure in Illustrhater successful, Ladybug disarms Illustrhater of her sketchpad for Cat Noir to destroy with Cataclysm, returning Maya to normal, purifies the Ultrakuma, and repairs the damage to the city with Miraculous Ladybug. Afterwards, Ladybug grants Maya a Magical Charm to protect her, and Carapace shares a "Pound it!" fist bump with his fellow Miraculous users and Maya after offering her positive reactions to her sketches, especially one she gives to Ladybug, which Marinette tapes into her diary upon returning home.
At the start of "Revelator", Carapace is with the rest of the team as, under Cat Noir and Ladybug's guidance, they attempt to unlock their adult Miraculous powers through sheer willpower. While some fail and need to recharge their Kwamis and transform again before resuming, everyone manages to successfully unlock their adult Miraculous powers and enable their ability to stay transformed indefinitely before manually reverting back by saying their power down catchphrase. To celebrate their accomplishment, Ladybug dubs the team, "The Miraculers", which they all agree on.
