He’s a superhero comic book character created by George Beard & Harold Hutchins who later became real after the duo hypnotized their principal, Mr. Krupp, into believing that he is Captain Underpants. The hypnotic suggestion became permanent after George and Harold doused his head with water. Now, whenever Mr. Krupp hears the sound of a finger snap, he is instantly brainwashed into becoming Captain Underpants once again.
As Mr. Krupp, he wears a white collared buttoned up short sleeved shirt with a brown necktie, brown loafers and green slacks, along with a toupee. Once he becomes Captain Underpants, he strips down into his underpants, removes his toupee and dons a red cape.
Mentality, Personality & Traits[]
Mr. Krupp is an angry, bad-tempered, cold-hearted, evil, grouchy, ruthless, selfish, sour, strict, and a very mean principal who hates children, especially George and Harold, because of their constant pranks and reckless behavior. He has Melvin Sneedly as his snitch as well giving him extra credit for his efforts of security footage of Harold and George's antics. According to Harold, Mr. Krupp hates all sources of fun like comic books, recess, Christmas, carnivals and even (allegedly) kittens. He has a secret crush on the school's lunch lady, Edith.
However, his personality is the complete polar opposite as Captain Underpants. He's jolly, kind, loyal yet dim witted. Still, he saves the day and is loyal to his two sidekicks, George and Harold.
Quotes[]
“
Now it is time to fly again!
„
~ Captain Underpants' movie quote.
“
Stand down, you giant ape monster!
„
~ Captain Underpants believing a ape balloon is a monster.
Alternatively, Dav Pilkey wanted Chris Farley to play Captain Underpants as the development for a live-action film or TV series began in 1997, when the first book came out. The project was shelved when Farley died.
In many occasions, the book version of Captain Underpants is shown to be smarter than his animated counterparts.
In the TV Series, Captain Underpants often says "Oooooooo" whenever he finds something surprising or interesting.
In the Season 3 episode of the TV Series, “The Cunning Combat of the Covert Camoflush”, Captain Underpants was apparently under prohibition for using paint to attempt to paint the town red.
Despite his cruelty, Mr. Krupp does have a soft spot for his nephew Kipper, as he punishes anyone who seemingly bullies him, despite it being obvious that Kipper is the bully.
His full name, Benny Krupp, is a pun on the word "bankrupt."
In Captain Underpants and the Sensational Saga of Sir Stinks-a-Lot, Mr. Krupp lost his ability to turn into Captain Underpants. The book stated that there are two possible reasons for this: the electromagnetic explosion that resulted from feeding Sir Stinks-a-Lot soda, Mentos, and pop rocks had erased the hypnotic spell from Mr. Krupp's brain, or Sir Stinks-a-Lot's Super-Power-Juice-ectonomy took away Mr. Krupp's superpowers.
Due to this, it's unknown how his elderly counterpart 30 years into the future could still change into Captain Underpants in Captain Underpants and the Revolting Revenge of the Radioactive Robo-Boxers.
In Book 3, it’s revealed that he’s aware of his missions and heroism in the Treehouse Comix novels written about him by George and Harold. This is most likely because, as revealed in Book 1, Mr. Krupp has removed and stored every issue of their Captain Underpants comics. (This implies that he has read them all at some time).
In the film, he reflects on his missions and accomplishments while also reading comic books about himself.
In the film, he recalls using the plunger to fight the toilets in Book 2.
Although he’s unaware of Mr. Krupp, he’s aware of his office and house.
Mr. Krupp can’t turn into Captain Underpants until his face and/or head are completely dry in the books and TV series. Mr. Krupp in the film can instantly transform back into Captain Underpants with the snap of a finger, even if he has just gotten soaked. In the film, the only exception to this rule is if it is currently raining.
