Nathaniel Kurtzberg, known as Caprikid is a major character of Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug & Cat Noir. He receives the Goat Miraculous, when inhabited by Ziggy, can transform him into Caprikid, a goat-themed superhero.
He is voiced by Michael Sinterniklaas.
Appearance[]
Physical appearance[]
Nathaniel is short with turquoise eyes and face length messy ginger hair with bangs to the left side of his face.
Civilian attire[]
He wears a red t-shirt with a black logo design on the front, similar to that of the band Magma. Over his shirt, he wears a dark gray dress jacket with a folded collar, folded sleeves, and side pockets. He wears purple jeans which are rolled up which reveals a light purple bottom, and has gray shoes with white lace and a white section where his toes would be.
As The Evillustrator[]
The Evillustrator's skin is light purple, and his hair is brushed back while colored orange with purple tips. On his head he has a dark purple beret, and on his face, he has a dark purple butterfly-shaped mask.
He wears a white suit with dark purple stripes and solid dark purple legs that become red halfway down his lower legs. On his chest, there is a black circle with smaller red, yellow, and blue circles inside. His collar is swan-necked, with a red collar underneath. A black drawing tablet is attached to the back of his right forearm. His pen is silver towards the tip, with the end being black with a red stripe in the middle.
As Caprikid[]
Caprikid wears a skin-tight suit composed of black pants and a black jacket with two thick white lines that go up diagonally from the bottom of his zipper to his shoulders. The jacket possesses a bushy white fur collar around his neck and at the ends of his sleeves. The zipper itself is a hollow upward pointing white triangle. His mask is mainly white, covering his eyes, with a V-shaped black section in the top/center. He also wears white gloves. His black boots also have white fur at their top and white soles.
His hair remains red, covering most of the left side of his face. He has two gray goat-like horns going up with a small curve off the top of his head along with the Goat Miraculous.
Personality[]
As a civilian, Nathaniel is imaginative and artistic. An introverted soul, he is quiet and shy in class, and seems to be quite easily lost in his fantasies, such as when he is daydreaming about his crush, Marinette. In his drawings, he creates "Super Nathan", a courageous superhero version of himself, as a way to imagine himself as being more brash and outgoing. Nathaniel can be rather observant about details around him, including goo left by Horrificator in the episode of the same name and the details of Chloé's bracelet in "Rogercop". Afraid of being judged, he prefers to be secretive about his art, and if he is accused of something, he becomes nervous, and, if the accusations are true, deeply embarrassed. This introverted nature of his is the root for his individualism, as he prefers to work alone and dislikes team sports. This changed partly after he met Marc and the two started working together to create their comic books.
Nathaniel has alot of self-doubt about his drawings and towards his own identity which in "The Ruler" is revealed to come from the influence of his own parents, with his father thinking he should be more compliant to what people may want and/or expect and his mother disapproving of him making comic illustrations thinking he needs to focus on a more serious artform. Although Mr.Kurtzberg is more supportive towards his son's ambition for illustration, his mother has a more firm position about her beliefs, which causes strain in her relationship with her son. Nathaniel wants nothing but to prove himself to her, but he falls short in front of her harsh criticism and rigidity.
He is easily terrified in some scary or stressful situations, as in "Horrificator", but in other situations, he is willing to stand up for himself, such as when others accuse him of stealing Chloé's bracelet.
In "Reverser", Nathaniel has a bit of a habit of jumping to conclusions when he assumed the book Marinette gave him came from Ladybug, when it actually came from Marc, without giving him the chance to explain. Similar to Cat Noir, he is sensitive of his feelings towards the heroine.
This trait is once again showcased in "The Ruler" when his parents find out about Marc's write and disapprove of his work, his mother shredding the transcripts. He runs back to the school in tears, transforming into Caprikid and shredding all of the comic books created by him and Marc.
As Caprikid, he retains most of his personality, especially his creativity, which he uses when invoking his power to create any object he wants. However, he becomes more of a team player, as he fights alongside Ladybug and the rest of her team in a very effective way, especially when he uses his power to convince Penalteam he and the other heroes can use their powers infinitely and without detransforming.
Caprikid loves to integrate his love for art in his fighting style, creating art supplies as weapons and shields when fighting supervillains. He is also shown to be very adept as a solo hero, as when his teammates are temporarily out of commission, he can quickly find a solution to defeat the villain. He can also be of great help to Ladybug, due to his ability to create anything that is necessary for Ladybug's Lucky Charm to work.
As The Evillustrator, he is more confident and direct, such as when he literally barged into Marinette's bedroom and asked her out to celebrate his birthday with him. Even when akumatized, he still genuinely cares for her, promising her that he would stop attacking Chloé and even defying Hawk Moth for a while when his date was at stake. However, he is furious when humiliated or tricked and he can be short-tempered and reckless - his response to Marinette betraying him was accusing her of being just like Chloé.
Powers and abilities[]
Civilian abilities[]
Nathaniel is an artist, skilled in drawing pictures with pencil, pen, and marker, and creating digital arts on his tablet. He is good at drawing still life, such as Chloé's bracelet, and drawing comics with human figures and costume designs. In "Zombizou", Nathaniel is also shown to be talented in painting, as he made one for Caline Bustier for her birthday. In "Re-creation", Nathaniel can use spray paint to do graffiti art as well.
In his titular episode, Nathaniel as the Evillustrator is shown "drawing" musical notes to create a melody, suggesting he has some musical knowledge or talent as well.
Miraculous abilities[]
Caprikid has enhanced capabilities such as speed, strength, and agility. His weapon is a Paint Brush that he can also use like a staff to defend himself. He can also use it to activate his power Genesis, which allows him to create any object he can imagine. However, despite he can create any object, his creations are mundane and don't have any kind of magic.
Akumatized abilities[]
The Evillustrator[]
- Drawing creation: he can create anything he draws on his tablet. including big shoes.
- Animation: he can make his drawing creations move on their own.
- Existence erasure: he can erase anything as well, which includes things in real-life.
- Super agility: he can jump to another spot from far away.

Season 2[]
In "Despair Bear", Nathaniel watches Tom Dupain's cooking lesson with his classmates until it is interrupted by Chloé, who secretly calls the fire department. As Mr. Damocles doesn't know who called, he punishes the whole school, and Nathaniel is seen cleaning the staircase as he angrily glares at Chloé. Later, he attends Chloé's party but is briefly taken aback when she forcefully asks him if he's having a nice time. After Despair Bear's defeat, Tom is invited to the party to finish his cooking lesson and Nathaniel bakes macarons.
In "Frightningale", Nathaniel appears in the final version of Clara Nightingale's music video.
In "Zombizou", Nathaniel reveals that, as a gift to Miss Bustier, he painted her as a superhero since she's always there for her students, even recalling a time when she helped him and another student reconcile. He is upset upon learning that Chloé didn't get Miss Bustier anything but even more so when he discovers that she sabotaged Marinette's gift. When Miss Bustier is akumatized into Zombizou, Nathaniel runs from the classroom with his classmates and they eventually hide in the locker room, though he isn't seen again until the next day.
In "Style Queen", Nathaniel is seen watching Gabriel Agreste's fashion show from the front row.
In "Reverser", during the school's Art Club, Nathaniel shows the art teacher his latest drawing of Might-illustrator and Ladybug fighting Queen Wasp. When the art teacher suggests turning his drawings into comic books, Nathaniel explains that he is only good at drawing stories rather than writing. The art teacher suggests that he team up with a creative writer, but Nathaniel says that he doesn't know anyone into that, to which Alix assures him that there's got to be someone out there. Just then, he meets Marc and explains the Art Club, even showing him some of his drawings, which Marc is fascinated by and praises Nathaniel's talent.
When Chloé comes into the club and makes fun of Nathaniel's drawings, he tries to hide them out of embarrassment but was relieved when she left. Later, Marinette decides to show Nathaniel Marc's writing in order to get the two to team up and make a comic book together, but since Marinette doesn't tell him who wrote the journal, Nathaniel mistakenly believes that it's actually from Ladybug. When he goes to the park to meet the author and finds Marc instead of Ladybug, he mistakenly believes that Marc and Marinette played a joke on him. He angrily rejects Marc's offer to make a comic book with him and rips his journal in half before leaving. He goes to the Louvre museum and confides in Alix about what happened, though when Alix points out that Marinette is not the type to make fun of others, Nathaniel began to wonder if he jumped to conclusions.
Just then, Ladybug and Cat Noir show up and reveal to the two that Marc was akumatized into Reverser and is looking for Nathaniel. Nathaniel agrees to go with the duo to the Eiffel Tower. He helps Ladybug and Cat Noir defeat the supervillain and then makes amends with Marc. The next day, the two make a comic book together and show it to the Art Club and in the end become boyfriends.
In "Malediktator", Nathaniel along with his classmates laugh at Chloé's Queen Bee presentation when they accurately call her out for posing as Ladybug and trying to praise herself for being the one Ladybug relies on. Later, upon learning that she was leaving Paris forever, he was momentarily taken aback but ultimately pleased by the news, happily celebrating with the school until Malediktator shows up and makes it so that a bunch of students and staff destroy the building. After Malediktator's defeat, Nathaniel attends a party honoring Queen Bee.
In "Catalyst", like most of his classmates, Nathaniel believed Lila when she says on a video chat that she's in the Kingdom of Achu and working on a pollution-reduction project. Then, after Miss Bustier asks her students what they'll be doing for Heroes Day and Marinette claims to be working on a macaron tasting for the entire school, Nathaniel was as excited as his other classmates.
In "Mayura", after Scarlet Moth's defeat, Nathaniel attends a picnic organized for Marinette.
Season 3[]
In "Chameleon", when Lila returns to class and claims to have tinnitus and need a front row seat, like most of his classmates, Nathaniel believes her lies and changed seats to accommodate her. When Marinette expresses reluctance at changing her seat and supposedly upsets Lila, Nathaniel and his classmates angrily glared at Marinette, forcing her to sit in the back. After Chameleon's defeat, Nathaniel listened to Lila as she continues to lie about her friendship with Ladybug. Back in class, Lila tells Miss Bustier that Ladybug cured her tinnitus and she no longer needs a front row seat, so Nathaniel and his classmates all decide to move back to their original seat. Lila winds up sitting next to him.
In "Gamer 2.0", when Max asks him to test his new video game, Nathaniel was intrigued but declines since he and Marc need to finish making several comic book pages. Nathaniel was one of the many former akumatized villains Gamer 2.0 zaps into his video game dimension. Evillustrator is selected by Ladybug to fight Volpina and easily wins. After Gamer 2.0's defeat, Nathaniel and the others are freed.
In "Oblivio", Nathaniel like everyone else was on the bus when Nino and Alya apologize for the trouble they caused as Oblivio.
In "Party Crasher", he took part in Nino's plan to throw an all boys party for Adrien at the Agreste Mansion after sending Alix a text claiming he had lost some work for his and Marc's next comic. He and Marc were spotted entering the Agreste estate by Marinette. He had a great time until Party Crasher crashed the party and caused everyone to flee. He is briefly seen to have been captured at some point before King Monkey was able to free everyone. After the villain's defeat, he helped cleaned the aftermath of the party.
In "Startrain", he was getting ready for his class field trip to visit Big Ben clock tower in London. During the train ride he sat next to Ms. Bustier drawing a picture of her until everyone took an unexpected trip to space because of Max's mother being akumatized into the titular villain. But thanks to Ladybug, Cat Noir and their new ally Pegasus everyone was brought safely back to Earth.
In "Félix", Nathaniel was on video chat with his friends talking about how they could make Adrien feel better about missing his mother and agreed with Marinette's idea about sending him a video message package.
In "Ladybug", Nathaniel was in Miss Bustier's class finishing the Mock Exams but was surprised along with everyone else that Marinette was accused of stealing and cheating but he like everyone else knew she would never do such a thing.
In "Miracle Queen", Nathaniel was at the Seine sitting next to Marc with his friends.
Season 4[]
In "Penalteam" Ladybug gives Nathaniel the Goat Miraculous in order to help defeat Chloé. He meets Ziggy, the goat kwami, and transforms into Caprikid for the first time.
Season 5[]
In "Jubilation", Caprikid is among the superheroes attending Ladybug and Cat Noir's wedding in the dream caused by Gift when they are fighting Darker Owl in reality.
In "Determination", to try and help restore morale to Paris because of losing Caprikid and the other heroes, Grevin Museum curator Veronique has a wax figurine of Caprikid made, alongside those of the rest of the team, in hopes of helping to boost hope. When Mayor Bourgeois, under Chloe's influence again, refuses to let the figures be displayed, Veronique is akumatized by Monarch into Manipula, bringing the wax figures of Caprikid and the others to life to try and make Manipula look like a hero by bringing the team back.
In the season finale, "The Final Day", Nathaniel is part of the Resistance as they fight against the Miraculized as part of Monarch's Operation Perfect Alliance, joined by Grandmaster Su-Han and the Guardians, the United Heroez, and Ladydragon, but it is a losing fight as the Miraculized keep coming. It is only, as shown in "Miraculous London", when Ladybug uses her Miraculous Ladybug to undo all the damage, that Nathaniel and everyone else are saved as the Miraculized are returned to normal. He later learns that Gabriel Agreste sacrificed himself to end the threat of Monarch for good. After Marinette restores the Miraculous to their original forms, she entrusts Ziggy to Nathaniel permanently, allowing Nathaniel to become Caprikid again and join the rest of the restored French Miraculous superhero team to prepare for whatever threats come from the new Hawk Moth in Lila Rossi/Cerise Bianca.
Season 6[]
At the start of "Revelator", Caprikid is with the rest of the team as, under Cat Noir and Ladybug's guidance, they attempt to unlock their adult Miraculous powers through sheer willpower. While some fail and need to recharge their Kwamis and transform again before resuming, everyone manages to successfully unlock their adult Miraculous powers and enable their ability to stay transformed indefinitely before manually reverting back by saying their power down catchphrase. To celebrate their accomplishment, Ladybug dubs the team, "The Miraculers", which they all agree on.
In "El Toro De Piedra" when the former students of Miss Bustier give her a birthday celebration, Nathaniel gets a few words on stage before bowing his head and saying "thank you" with the rest of his class.
In "The Ruler", it shows that Nathaniel's mother, Shirel Kurtzburg, is disapproving and seemingly homophobic toward Nathaniel and making a comic book, thinking that there is no future in graphic novels. His father wasn't any help either, saying that there wasn't any "sentiment" in his and Marc's masterpieces. Near the beginning of the episode, Marc and Nathaniel are seen together, he reading Marc's script for the next volume of their comic series and doubting whether he should illustrate or not. Their friends do their best to convince Nathaniel, but he ends up managing to hide that he still doesn't want to do it. Marc catches on to his behavior and reassures him it would still be fine it he didn't do it. Nathaniel trusts his words and gives the script back to Marc and smiles at him, Marc smiles back. They then part ways. He walks his head down. He then decides to run back to Marc and do the comic anyway, despite his mother's wishes.
He then spends his weekend drawing away at the comic of Sun-Heart and Rain-Piercer's second issue and even changes the ending with his kwami Ziggy's support. It's then most likely the next day and Marc and Nathaniel are in his room and he gives his approval for Nathaniel's changes. Shirel then interrupts and nearly finds out he disobeyed her, but luckily Marc was able to cover up their behavior. After a bit of doubtful talk from him, Nathaniel reassures him under the assumption that his mother would have to approve after they'd had it published. They then went to school holding hands and to get their comic published.
Nathaniel is then seen at school with Marc and the rest of their friends. With the help of their art teacher, they got their had many copies of comic printed. Then he is seen back home with his mother in front of him. She confronts him and after he falsely denies it but her still destroying the script anyway, even threatening to not allow him to see Marc ever again, he runs back to the school, ignoring those around him. Then when he gets to his school, after giving a brief excuse to the doorman and entering the art room, expresses to Ziggy his regret of illustrating the comic. While Ziggy does her best to comfort him, she fails, and Nathaniel transforms into Caprikid and creates a machine to destroy the comics. Halfway though, he then remembers that he and Marc had given the original version of the comic to Marinette, and is seen in her room, having a conversation with her. They make an agreement that she could keep the original but couldn't show it to anyone. They then hug and Nathaniel is reminded he'll have to talk to him.
It's seemingly the next day, Nathaniel and Marc are seen chatting next to a pond in school. He is doing his best to avoid a glance from him; after telling him he was backing out of the comic without telling him his mother was the reason. But even after Marc doing his best to persuade his partner and even holding his hand, Nathaniel just reassures him friendship is still an option, and he could find some else to do the artwork before leaving.
Nathaniel is next seen with his mother and two teachers, and it is implied that he is somewhat ill. He starts to walk out of the school but is then stopped by Marinette to discuss Sun-heart and Rain-piercer. After it's established that he did in fact illustrate the graphic novel, Shirel begins to force him out of the school and gets akumatized. After some help from Marc who saw everything and also gets hit as well as Ladybug, who told him to hide somewhere safe. Nathaniel goes to the same place he destroyed the comics, the art room. But this time, he hides in a closet. After a quick discussion with Ziggy, he transforms into Caprikid and goes to confront his mother. After fighting with life sized art supplies provided by genesis and Ladybug's Lucky Charm, he uses The Rulers' staff against her and saves the day.
Back at home, Nathaniel's parents are reading his comic, this time with a better judgement. He and Marc are standing together and holding hands. Nathaniel ends up with both their approvals and shares a hug with all three of them. It is also revealed that he added a kissing scene between Sun-heart and Rain-piercer at the end of their graphic novel.
In the last scene, both Marc and Nathaniel are seen together, just hanging out on his bed. They have a touching conversation on how surprised they are about being treated, all for doing something that they loved. They cuddle a bit and eventually, Nathaniel says a very notable quote; "Power or no power, I'll always be there to protect you" and after Marc says he'd do the same and spoke some more under the impression that he had no alias, he then reveals he is Caprikid and after some shock, Marc reveals his identity as well.
