Bulat, also known as 100 Man-Slayer Bulat, is a major supporting character in the manga and anime series, Akame ga Kill!. He was a member of the revolutionary army's assassin group, Night Raid.
Appearance[]
Bulat was a tall, muscular young man with blue eyes and black hair who usually wore a heart-shaped pompadour. Before he joined Night Raid, he wore his hair down. When he was not wearing incursio, he often wore a black shirt with green shoulders, chest armor, white pants and black boots. On several occasions, he wore a black leather jacket over his regular attire.
Personality[]
Bulat had a gentle and kind personality. Although he described himself as passionate and hot-blooded, he actually never lost his cool during battle. He is one of the most caring members of Night Raid, and taught Tatsumi to accept these feelings, but not to get swallowed up by them. When Leone told Tatsumi that Bulat was gay, Bulat replied, "Don't give him the wrong idea," but did not deny Leone's statement, turning bright red. Bulat occasionally flirted with Tatsumi, making Tatsumi extremely nervous.
Biography[]
Bulat was once a military officer of the empire, and was trained under Gensei, who was hailed as the strongest of the time, and eventually became a high-ranking official in the empire, earning him the nickname "Bulat the 100 Man-Slayer Bulat." He then betrayed the Empire when his superior, General River, was blamed for not bowing to the Chancellor's agenda. Bulat grew to dislike the Empire, which valued bribes over his accomplishments, no matter how hard he worked. After he left the Empire, he joined the Revolutionary Army and its affiliate, Night Raid. Upon joining Night Raid, Bulat changed his image and completely revamped himself. When Tatsumi joined Night Raid, Bulat took it upon himself to train the young man as Tatsumi's big brother and mentor. Tatsumi and Bulat eventually team up and take on a mission to protect a civilian official who has been targeted for assassination by the three beasts. In the ensuing battle between Tatsumi and Daidara, Bulat saves Tatsumi and angrily scolds him for falling into his enemy's trap, then heads into battle himself and easily fends off the Three Beasts, simultaneously defeating Daidara and cutting him in half.
Afterwards, River, a former superior of the Empire and now a member of Esdeath's army, attacked Bulat, and the two fought on equal terms for a while. He manages to defeat his liver, but in the process he receives a fatal poison. Before his death, Bulat left his Teigu Seal to Tatsumi.
Death[]
Tatsumi was the only one to survive the battle with the Three Beasts, and since no one witnessed Bulat's death, the Empire is unaware of his death. This is also evidenced when Wave encounters Tatsumi wearing the Incursio, and the former remains until Esdeath discovers his true identity when Shura teleports Tatsumi and Lubbock to the palace grounds. He quickly identified him as Bulat.
Bulat's death also had a huge impact on Tatsumi, imprinting all of Bulat's advice into both his mental and physical strength, adapting his own fighting style to be similar to Bulat's, and making a difference in his fight against Boudreau. He helped Tatsumi a lot in battle.
