Bubbles Utonium, better known as Bubbles and also known as Miyako Gotokuji in Japanese, is one of the three titular main protagonists of the anime adaptation, Powerpuff Girls Z, based on the original 1998 edition of the The Powerpuff Girls franchise.
Like her original incarnation, Bubbles is the youngest, most naïve, nurturing, spoiled sweet and enthusiastic, but also ironically the most mature of the Powerpuff Girls, being described as "the joy and the laughter." She was first encountered by being attacked by Mojo. She transforms into Rolling Bubbles and her trademark weapon is a bubble wand.
She was voiced by Nami Miyahara in the Japanese dub, and by Maryke Hendrikse in the English dub.
Appearance[]
Bubbles retains her hairstyle during the re-imagining from the original Powerpuff Girls show, but her pigtails are slightly longer and curled into ringlets. She also makes usage of curlers (3 balls on each pigtail) when going to bed. In her alter ego, known as Rolling Bubbles, a blue hairpin was attached to her hair.
Bubbles' primary appearance is similar to a uniform worn by middle schoolgirls; a white long-sleeved button shirt with a blue necktie at the collar, a light blue and black-pleated skirt with white frills at the edge, white knee-high socks, and black Mary Jane-proportioned flats. In the middle episodes, she wears a pink winter denim blazer with a fur collar, underneath is a blue sleeveless dress with frill at the edge of her dress skirt, black socks, and yellow-green cowboy boots. In both outfits, she retains the white belt with a blue round buckle, where she can transform into Rolling Bubbles.
As Rolling Bubbles, her outfit is in a lighter shades of blue wearing a light blue jersey vest with the sign of 'P' at the left side with sky blue and white linings and has sky blue sleeves in each side of her vest, underneath is a sky blue one-piece suit with black linings and matching straps, sky blue short skirt with a white side belt in a blue round buckle to cover her bottoms and black linings at the edge of her skirt and sky blue and white shoes. She also wears black fingerless gloves with white and blue linings.
Personality[]
Bubbles is the third member of The Powerpuff Girls Z. Unlike her original incarnation, where she is often childish, Bubbles is quite mature in The Powerpuff Girls Z (although she is still a bit childish nonetheless), as she acts as a mother-like figure towards Ken.
Bubbles' element of personality is "sugar," which heavily reflects her humble, sweet, enthusiastic and upbeat personality. She is heavily compassionate towards her sisters, Blossom and Buttercup, as well as her surroundings, and loves stuffed animals and puppies. Further reflecting this, Bubbles is the most harmonizing of the Powerpuff Girls. She asked the Giant Orange Monster to leave peacefully (which it obliged) with pure politeness.
Ironically, she is also the dizziest member of the group, as she often appears to be a bit clueless, and seems to not virtually understand her powers, along with a few things. She is heavily kindhearted and polite, but like the other two girls, can too get mad when provoked, and disapproves of crying to get what she wants.
She is popular with several boys at her school, but she has feelings for Takaaki since the beginning, after saving her from boys when she was much younger. Like in the regular Powerpuff Girls show, she retains her innocent and gentle personality, and has a love for animals, as well as her doll, Octi. Additionally, Bubbles is also shown to be heavily sensitive and overemotional, occasionally being the weakest link in the group, as she cries more than others when something bad happens to her.

- Bubbles is a sweet, naive and enthusiastic girl comparatively like her original counterpart. Unlike the original Bubbles from the original Powerpuff Girls show, Bubbles is obsessed with fashion, and is ironically the most mature of the girls in The Powerpuff Girls Z.
- She is the only member of the Powerpuff Girls Z that is an only child, and whose grandmother is shown.
- Bubbles' theme song is "Himawari," which it defines the term, "sunflower," in Japanese.
- Bubbles is the only member of the Powerpuff Girls whose primary weapon directly correlates to her superheroic name.
