Black Knight is one of the antagonists and the anti-hero of Shovel Knight, he is Shovel Knight's mysterious and well-meaning rival. Despite the same weapon selection, his fighting style differs from Shovel Knight.
Appearance[]
The Black Knight wears bulky black obsidian armor similar to Shovel Knight, but looks darker and more sinister, as if he is the exact opposite of Shovel Knight. He wears a black barbutte-like helmet with long, pointed red horns protruding from the top. The pauldrons of his shoulders are outlined in red, and his pelvic area is also painted in red. He wields a black shovel blade with a red blade and handle.
Personality[]
Black Knight is depicted as an arrogant and mysterious enemy to Shovel Knight. He shows confidence and malice during battles with his enemies, laughs before and during battles, even maniacally and mockingly. He is always looking for a fight and does not answer to anyone, including the powerful Enchantress.
However, despite being his rival, he also seems to have good intentions in his interactions with Shovel Knight, as Enchantress and her Order of No Quarter personally warn him to save Shield Knight, which he seems to admire and respect. However, it was out of cowardice that he did not take more decisive action against Enchantress, a fact he himself reluctantly admits and is ashamed of. He rescues Shovel Knight and takes her to safety, granting Shield Knight her wish. He also expressed his sincere concern for the safety of his old friend Specter Knight and his beloved horse, Terrorpin, even jumping into a hole in pursuit of Terrorpin after Terrorpin was seriously injured. Initially hostile towards the Plague Knight, mistaking the latter's intentions for empty charity, he later realizes that his feelings for Mona are not only genuine, but mutual between the two. After realizing that, she begins to empathize with him. He even goes to great lengths to appease them.
Overall, the Black Knight's arrogant and cocky attitude hides a noble soul with a strong sense of independence.
