Aster Phoenix, known as Edo Phoenix in the Japanese version and more commonly known as Ed Phoenix in his romanization, is a prodigy and world-renowned top-ranked professional duelist. He is loved by fans all over the world, and his celebrity status has done wonders for the game by introducing it to the masses. Aster, an intelligent vigilante, first appears in the second season of Yu-Gi-Oh! GX and Jaden's antagonistic counterpart-turned-Jaden's anti-hero counterpart. Although initially not caring much about Jaden and Duel Academy, Aster is sent there by his manager to defeat Jaden, and succeeds in doing so. It is only after a fierce duel between the heroes, and after he realizes that he has been deceived, that Aster develops a better relationship with Jaden.

Aster was described by Maximilion Pegasus, author of Duel Monsters, as one of the best duelists he had ever seen, alongside former King of Games Yugi Muto and Seto Kaiba. It is mentioned that he is also a professional athlete and excels in skiing, skydiving, skysurfing, and surfing. The original version further indicates that he holds a Ph.D., although there is no mention of it in the English dub. With two unpublished themes. Aster can also see the souls of Duel Monsters, although not as much as Jaden. Aster is one of only three people to defeat Jaden, the other two being Zane Truesdale and Kaibaman. He is also the only one of these three to later lose to Jaden in a rematch.

Appearance[]

Aster's usual attire consists of silver formal wear with buttoned sleeves, a black shirt underneath with matching shoes, and a loose tie. His gray hair is divided into two layers, his bangs forming one layer and the rest forming his other layer. His blue eyes are placed between the layers closest to his face. He carries an Academy-issued Duel Disk on his left arm.

Personality[]

Aster is a professional duelist who believes in fate and is drawn into showdowns with the most skilled opponents. Aster is polite and well-intentioned, but his stubborn attitude and pessimistic outlook can often blind him to the reality of certain situations. He pursues his ambitions despite the risks and overwhelming odds, and feels he must shoulder alone the burden of avenging his father's death and regaining the stolen "Hero of Destiny." Having been robbed of his father at an early age, he relies on fatherly figures such as Sartorius and his legal guardian, D. This may prove to be Aster's weakness. It is known that the two men took advantage of him with mere words, although they themselves were due to malevolent forces. Since his father's disappearance, Aster has also developed a fear of the state of his "age," and after his life-altering events, he believes he has not truly progressed anywhere as a person. Therefore, he uses "Destiny Heroes" to control the future of his enemies. Aster is also shown to be sympathetic towards other orphans like himself.

History[]

When Aster was a child, his father, a card designer for Industrial Illusions, was murdered, and the last cards he created were scattered on the floor of the crime scene. A card known as the "Ultimate D Card" was stolen from him. And Aster vowed to stop the thief who took away his father and dueled with the intention of becoming a dangerous vigilante. He then became a strong Pro League duelist with his 30 wins.

Society of Light[]

Aster first meets Jaden at Duel Academy at the beginning of his second year as a new student. After she arrives at Duel Academy, Aster enters Dorothy's card shop and builds a deck using the contents of some random card packs that were left on her shelf. When she tells him that it won't be long before her girlfriend, Dorothy, builds a deck like that, he tells her it's okay because he's just testing her abilities. During his duel with Jaden, Aster receives a call from Sartorius, who tells him his fortune and tells him that the Grim Reaper tarot card is reversed, which means Aster loses the victory. Aster says he understands and ends the call. Aster takes Jaden's duel more seriously and soon takes the duel back, destroying all of Jaden's monsters and opening himself up to direct attacks. After Jaden narrowly avoids the finishing blow, Aster recalls his earlier conversation with Sartorius, in which Sartorius told him to purposely lose the duel because it would give him an advantage as a duelist. Following the manager's orders, Aster throws a duel and leaves with respect, but this low-level duelist is still thinking in his mind about how playing a duel will change him, and the manager's predictions I'm starting to doubt it.

After Aster leaves Duel Academy for the Pro League Duel with Zane Truesdale, he dresses up as a Phoenix Enforcer and punishes a criminal in an alley, but Zane witnesses the incident. Aster is then seen meeting with Sartorius, who scolds him for his thoughtless vigilante ways and tells him that he doesn't think the man he's looking for is among the petty criminals in the area. advised. Sartorius begins predicting Aster's future and draws the Chariot tarot card. However, before Sartorius could tell Aster what it meant, Aster had predicted that Sartorius would achieve a perfect victory over Zane, and that the only card that would appear when Sartorius told him his fate was Chariot. Aster goes on to say that he would have won in his last duel with Jaden as well, but Sartorius ordered him to lose, so he would rather remain at the top of the Pro League than waste his time in Duel Academy. Sartorius reassures Aster that his prediction of the future is accurate, and Aster agrees to defeat Jaden after defeating Zane.

At the beginning of his duel with Zayn, Zayn mentioned that Aster replaced him as Duel Academy's best duelist and continued to praise Aster as the person he wanted to duel with, but Aster said that Zayn's Zayn reacts to compliments as if he were an old man. A duel begins and Aster summons the "Elemental Hero Avian", shocking Zane that Aster is playing "Elemental Hero" just like Jaden. If Aster fuses "Avian" and "Burstinatrix", he will summon "Elemental HERO Phoenix Enforcer" instead of "Elemental Hero Flame Wingman". In their duel, Aster stays one step ahead of Zane, occasionally angering him in the process, and both quickly catch up. Zane summons "Cyber End Dragon" and attacks Aster's "Shining Phoenix Enforcer", which appears to have the upper hand. However, because Aster used "Destruction of Destiny", the attack power of "Shining Phoenix Enforcer" became higher than "Cyber End Dragon", and Zane lost the duel due to the combined battle damage and effect damage. I end up. When Aster comments to Zane that his fate is already decided, Zane realizes that Aster was the vigilante he encountered, but Aster leaves.

After defeating Zane in the Pro League, Aster was interviewed by many reporters, claiming that he was the first to create the hero deck, and that a Duel Academy duelist named Jaden used "his" deck. He says he became famous for. Aster challenges Jaden Yuki and announces his return to Duel Academy. Aster meets with Sartorius before leaving for Duel Academy, and when Sartorius asks Aster if he is using those cards, Aster claims that he is going to show Jaden a true hero. Sartorius claims to have read Aster's fortunes, assured him of his usual success, and did not even need to predict his own future.

Aster visits Duel Academy by skysurfing from a cargo plane. Aster soon punishes the thief, who is trying to escape from the academy after stealing a bunch of cards from the school store, by defeating the thief in a duel and knocking him unconscious with one of his monsters. Afterwards, Aster encounters Jaden Yuki, Syrus Truesdale, and Bastion Misawa, who rush to the scene. Bastion Misawa asks Aster what happened to the unconscious man, but Aster only grins and comments that it has been a while since he last saw Jaden. When Vice-Chancellor Bonaparte tells Aster that the fate of Slifer Red House depends on their duel, Aster says that in order to take advantage of the duel, he must become the sponsor, which he cannot do. Insult him by insisting, he can afford it with his salary. Aster then tells Jaden that he will be waiting at the school's dueling arena first thing in the morning, and that no spectators other than his friends are allowed. Aster insists that dueling is nothing special to him and that professionals don't show off their skills indiscriminately. Jaden yells to Aster that his "Elemental Hero" deck means everything to him, but Aster just laughs and tells him not to forget it.

Aster insists that a duel will decide who is the true "hero" user. He tells Jaden that he can't beat him and that Aster has something Jaden doesn't, and Aster tells Jaden that he'll understand right away. A battle between the "heroes" breaks out as the two mirror their respective "elemental hero" monsters. After Jaden successfully removes Aster's "Shining Phoenix Enforcer" from the field, Jaden declares that he will enjoy the duel. Aster criticizes Jaden for saying that dueling is fun, and says that duels between "heroes" shouldn't be fun. Aster claims that Jaden's casual view of "heroes" makes him sick, and Aster claims that he needs his hero, a "true hero", in order to survive. Aster then unleashes the true monster of the deck, the "Destiny Hero" card, which he declares is true power and surpasses the power of the "Elemental Heroes". Aster takes control of the duel and effectively controls time around Jaden by sending monsters into the future as the needle of Aster's "Clocktower Prison" continues to spin. Aster explains this as a countdown to Jaden's defeat, and Jaden cannot escape to challenge the destiny.

When "Clock Tower Prison" is destroyed, Aster summons "Destiny Hero - Dread Master" and stops Jaden's "Elemental Hero Thunder Giant" from being able to destroy Destiny Hero with the effect of "Dread Master". Aster claims that he will become the best duelist, and that he will find his father's attacker with a certain card and rid the world of crime "in his own way." Aster defeats Jaden, and he claims that he is a true hero wielder and that he and his "Destiny Heroes" surpass Jaden and his "Elemental Heroes." As Aster walks away triumphantly, the spirit of the Dreadmaster stands at his side. Unbeknownst to Aster, Sartorius sneaked some of his spiritual energy into the deck before the duel, which activated upon Jaden's defeat and brainwashed Jaden into becoming an ally. Eventually the boy's rebellious powers ended up temporarily blinding his cards instead of his fate.

Aster later meets with Sartorius, who tells him that something is happening that goes against his predictions, and Aster is shocked and surprised that something has gone awry with Sartorius' usually correct predictions. Sartorius tells Aster that there are people at Duel Academy who can overcome fate. When Aster became interested, Sartorius told him that he should return to Duel Academy if he wanted to know. Aster doesn't want anything to do with Duel Academy, so he leaves. Aster recalled the first time he met Sartorius when he was a child, and he said that the fate Sartorius prophesied was absolute and that he wondered how he could overcome it. Bonaparte then contacts Aster and conveys his request.

Back at Duel Academy, Aster appears in front of Alexis Rhodes and Jaden's remaining friends as Alexis asks Principal Crowler and Vice Principal Bonaparte who will be the opponent who will decide the fate of Slifer Red Dormitory. manifest Astor reveals that he is her opponent, to the shock of everyone except Bonaparte. Aster meets Chazz Princeton before the duel and he asks Aster if he came on behalf of Sartorius, the leader of the Society of Light, but Aster has never heard of the Society of Light and Chazz surprise. Later, Aster is asked by Chazz if he came to eliminate Jaden, but he replies that there is no need to do so, as Aster has already destroyed Jaden. Chaz continued to tell Aster that even though Aster defeated Jaden, Jaden did not become a member of the Society, meaning Sartorius' powers had no effect on Jaden. That information only confuses Aster even more, and Chazz leaves. Aster asks Chazz for an explanation, but gets no response. Aster begins to wonder if Jaden is the one who can change the fate that Sartorius had mentioned.

Aster's presence frightens Alexis. Vice Chancellor Bonaparte announces that the fate of Red Dormitory is at stake, but before the duel can begin, Jaden reenters the arena and thanks Aster for giving him a new deck. Aster reminds Jaden that there is no other hero on Earth than the "Destiny Hero," but Jaden insists that his new hero is from outer space, which makes Aster doubtful. Jaden feels he is the one to duel with Aster, so he duels in Alexis' place. Jaden tells Aster that they should enjoy dueling, but Aster reminds Jaden that no matter how many times they duel, he will always win.

Aster is surprised when Jaden summons "Neo Spacian Aqua Dolphin", but he quickly takes back the Duel and summons "Dread Master". When Jaden summons a new hero, "Elemental Hero Neos", Aster protests that it is impossible, as he has never heard of or seen the "hero". Jaden used Contact Fusion to summon ``Elemental Hero Aqua Neos'' and succeeded in destroying "Dreadmaster'', which enraged Aster, and Aster began to talk about fate, saying that just like the previous duel, he won. Claim that it has already been decided. To everyone's surprise, "Aqua Neos" returns to the Fusion Deck during the End Phase, leaving Jaden defenseless.

Aster takes advantage of this opportunity and attacks Jaden directly with "Destiny Heroes", depleting almost all of Jaden's life points in just one turn. In Aster's mind, Jaden doesn't know the burden of a true hero and comments that he continues to get frustrated as Jaden regains a small advantage with the new Neo-Specians. As Jaden shows Aster more of his new "Neo-Specians" and gets excited about them being more "heroes", Jaden becomes increasingly angry at Aster, who brings up his past and says, He laments that he doesn't believe in "heroes" who have no destiny. Aster uses the "Destiny Heroes" to eradicate all crime and find his father's attacker. When Jaden says that Aster's father, who was a card designer, must have created "Destiny Heroes" to please Aster rather than offend him, Aster is reminded of the good things he spent with his father when he was younger. Recalling the memories, Jaden points out that it is. That's true, but Aster only feels sadness when he sees his "hero of destiny," he laments to himself. Aster is interrupted in his past thoughts by Bonaparte, who tries to make Aster believe that Jaden is trying to confuse him. Aster begins to have a change of heart and wonders if by using the "Destiny Heroes" for his revenge, he has inflicted his fate on them. Aster quickly closes the difference in life points with other players and summons "Dread Master" again. This time, we will use the summoning effect to collect the tribute of “Destiny Hero – Dogma”. When Dogma is summoned, Jaden's life points will be cut in half on Jaden's next turn, leaving Jaden with almost no life points left. Jaden tries to respond to Aster's "Dogma" by summoning "Neos". Aster states that Neos is still much weaker than Dogma, but Jaden contacts Fuse "Neos" and "Neospatian Flare Scarab" to summon "Elemental Hero Flare Neos", and Aster says that the new one It reminds him of how he was always excited to see the heroes his father made for him. Aster protects Dogma from Flare Neos' attack with the "D-Shield", and Jaden praises Aster. Aster accepts Jaden's praise and praises Jaden's "Neos" as a great hero, but Aster still tells Jaden that he will not lose the duel yet. Aster tries to end the duel by combining "Heavy Storm Blade" and "Dogma" to destroy "Neo Space", but he accidentally destroys Jaden's set "Spell Calling", and Jaden will be able to power up "Flare" by setting two more spell cards. Neos”. Shocked and surprised by what is happening, Aster decides that Jaden can indeed outwit Sartorius' predictions. "Dogma" is destroyed and Jaden wins.

As Jaden celebrates his victory, Aster admits that he lost today, but it wasn't because his "Destiny Heroes" lost, it was just that his abilities were imperfect. Jaden states that he and Aster were drawn because their first duel didn't count. Aster agrees and tells Jaden that he will eventually end their relationship. As Aster cowers in fear of him from the stands, Crowler and Bonaparte leave the Duel stand, Aster catches up with them and declares that he will make the Duel Academy his home base, and Aster also declares that the Pro League is very busy. As Aster leaves, the Chancellor and his friends can only cringe in fear and wish him luck. Outside the Academy, Aster tries to call Sartorius, but he is of no use. Aster realizes that Sartorius has disappeared, but Aster wants answers, including what Sartorius is planning and what the Society of Light is. Aster knows that if he remains at the academy with Jaden, Sartorius will reappear so that Jaden can overcome his fate.

Aster spends most of his time at Duel Academy relaxing on his yacht. He begins to advise Jaden about Sartorius and his associates. He informs them of X's strategy, warns Tyranno Hassleberry that he has no chance against Sartorius in a duel, and informs Jaden and his friends that Sartorius can predict fate.

Aster accompanies his fellow Duel Academy students on a field trip to Domino City. Bastion asks Aster what Sartorius is doing, as Sartorius is his manager after all, but Aster denies this and says he is no more, remembering his conversation with Sartorius and saying that he is his manager. It made me more suspicious of who he thought he was. his friend. Aster then finds Jaden, who has just found Solomon Muto abandoned in a garbage heap after being kidnapped, and tells him of his concerns. Aster then begins to notice that the four "lord" dueling spirits have formed a barrier around the city. He tells Jaden that he has been able to see strange things since they dueled, hinting that he has the ability to see the souls of dueling monsters. They then met Frost, who had just defeated Syrus and Hassleberry. Jaden asks Frost what he did and tells him that he will take him to Sarina, whom Aster recognizes as Sartorius' sister.

In the trailer, Aster is seen mocking Jaden's disregard for the situation after Jaden befriends strangers T-Bone and Blaze in the middle of the night. The strange men turn out to be working for Sarina and challenge Jaden to a duel, but Jaden defeats T-Bone. After Sarina appears and seals her T-bone into a card, showing Syrus and Hassleberry trapped inside a pod in a virtual world facility, she challenges Jaden and tells Aster to come too as it is his destiny. challenge. Realizing this is what Sartorius meant, Aster heads to the facility with Jaden and Bastion right after Salina's challenge. After arriving at the virtual facility, they decide to leave Bastion with Solomon. Aster enters the facility with Jaden, but upon arriving in the room where Hassleberry and Syrus were, he is immediately blinded by a light.

Aster and Jaden regain consciousness and realize they were trapped in a virtual world. Aster soon discovers Jaden's friends. He discovers Hassleberry, who has been turned into a dinosaur, Silas, who has been turned into a car, and Frost, Thunder, Blaze, and T-Bone, who have been sealed in the virtual world. When Sarina finally reveals her true identity, Aster demands to know why he was brought here. Sarina states that Sartorius prophesied that one of them would have the power to save him, and Aster begins to suspect that his fate has changed. Sarina challenges Aster and Jaden to a tag duel with her virtual alter ego. Aster is asked for help by Jaden and agrees to duel with him, but Aster insists that he is dueling for more personal reasons than to save Jaden's friends.

Aster quickly deduced that there was a deeper meaning behind Sarina's cards and her moves. Aster soon realizes that he becomes competitive towards Jaden, feeling that he is the only one being predicted. He becomes increasingly irritated by Jaden's stupidity and misjudgment, resulting in both monsters being destroyed by Sarina's Mirror Bind. Aster explains to Jaden that he needs to focus on removing Sarina's "Silver Spirit - Ukyo" and "Silver Spirit - Sakyo" from the field and making him unable to use Mirror Bind. After Jaden realizes that he should let the pros figure out how to attack him, Aster takes the initiative and destroys one of Sarina's "Silver Spirits", inflicting initial damage on them while also turning himself into Sartorius. considered to be one of the prophecies. Aster immediately corners Sarina's "Ukyo" and "Sakyo" with "Destiny HERO -Double Dude", but notices that the moon reflected by Sarina's "Full Moon Mirror" turns black and they are encountering a black mist.

After Sarina summons the Dark Creator, Aster realizes that it was the source of his anxiety. The "Dark Creator" destroys Jaden's monster and Aster assumes Sarina will attack directly, but Jaden just says this is the end, but the attack never happens. Aster tells Jaden to think about why Sarina would attack again, assuming that the Dark Creator cannot attack directly. Jaden is happy that Aster has decided to support him, but Aster insists that he does not recognize Jaden yet, which confuses Jaden. When Jaden gets excited about Salina's monster, he thinks that Aster might not be taking dueling seriously. Aster summons "Destiny Hero - Dasher" and increases the attack power of "Dasher" with an effect that exceeds that of "Dark Creator", but unfortunately "Dark Creator" cannot be destroyed in battle. As Jaden still wants to turn the tables, Aster thinks impressively of Jaden, but he decides to use the effect of "Destiny Hero - Dasher" to help Jaden . This allows Jaden to summon "Neospacian Dark Panther" and eventually "Elemental Hero Dark Neos" who defeats "Dark Creator" and wins the Duel.

Jaden admits that he would have lost if he hadn't been paired with Aster, a confession that impressed Aster. After the duel, Sarina collapses, but begs Aster to save her brother. Sarina then tells Aster about Sartorius' past and that the mysterious man who once came to tell his fortune was a powerful sinister being who possessed Sartorius and came to form a dual personality within him. Talk about bringing a "hero" card with . Aster asks if the card is the "Hero of Destiny" stolen from his father and if Sartorius still has it. She replies that Sarina is not. The card disappeared from Sartorius' hand. Before Aster can force information from Sarina, the virtual world begins to collapse. Sarina begins to disappear, but Aster uses his powers to return Sartorius to the kind-hearted person he once was, imploring him to stop the being possessed by Sartorius from ruining the world. Sarina states that she realizes that both Aster and Jaden can change Sartorius' fate. Aster quickly leaves the collapsing virtual world with Jaden and the others, and after getting outside, he expresses concern about saving Sarina before leaving Domino City.

Despite the chaos caused by the Society of Light at Duel Academy, Aster easily thwarts Jaden, Syrus, and Hassleberry's attempts to steal food while relaxing comfortably on his yacht. Aster is monitoring Bastion Misawa with his trademark "Doom Lord". Bastion then passes Aster, who was waiting outside the Ra Yellow dormitory, but when questioned, Aster claims that he just likes to take his nightly walk. Aster continues to taunt Bastion with sarcastic comments about his attempts to challenge Sartorius, but Bastion suggests that he will prove to Aster that he is too strong a duelist as he did before his departure. Aster contacts Jaden and his friends and instructs them to head to the Academy's Duel Arena. When Bastion escapes to challenge Sartorius. Jaden asks Aster if Bastion has a chance of defeating Sartorius, and Aster replies that there is no such thing. Aster believes that Bastion is a strong duelist and wants to become stronger, but Bastion also wants the people around him and his friends to accept him, so even if Bastion He said that even if he could beat Sartorius, he still wouldn't be able to beat him. Jaden and his friends escape, and Aster appears shortly after Bastion loses to Chazz, confirming that Bastion let Chazz win and acknowledging that Bastion's intelligence made him a formidable opponent for Sartorius. But unfortunately Sartorius still managed to overcome him by preying on the newly arose anxiety in Bastion.

Aster is next seen watching as Chancellor Sheppard returns to Duel Academy and announces the Genex Tournament with an excited Jaden, Silas, and Hassleberry. After the announcement, Aster maintains his usual relaxed and aloof demeanor, in contrast to Jaden's excitement as the two discuss the Genex tournament with Hassleberry and Syrus. Hassleberry and Syrus are afraid of a duel with Jaden, fearing they will lose easily, but Aster says that he will closely monitor the developments and will win various duels off-screen and depart. Aster watches the showdown between Chaz and Jergo. A junior pro that Aster almost loses to. When Jaden arrives, Aster states that Chaz is actually winning. Chaz defeats Gergo and challenges Jaden in front of Aster, Hassleberry, and Silas before leaving. When Jaden asks Aster if he is going to duel, Aster wittily replies that all the duelists on the island are avoiding him for some reason. Hassleberry responds to Aster's statement that he avoids Aster because he is clearly too strong. Aster reveals to Hassleberry's shock that he has acquired more than a few Genex medals by defeating duelists who were interested in Hassleberry, and Aster casually hands the medals to Hassleberry, who happily accepts them, but , claimed Astor was straining his pockets. After handing over the medals, Aster rhetorically asks Hassleberry if he wants to be his opponent, which greatly intimidates Hassleberry, but Hassleberry simply does not respond, and Aster asks Jaden, Hassleberry, and Silas to wish him the best. I casually left while advising him to do his best. Aster watches a duel between a brainwashed Chazz and Jaden during the Genex Tournament. After Jaden lets Chazz regain himself, Chazz makes himself lose in order to destroy the monster given to Sartorius, which causes Aster to notes and explains how Jaden defeated some of Sartorius' power, telling Hassleberry that there is a monster that must be defeated.

Aster is later seen aboard a yacht staring at the light emanating from Duel Academy, but is soon interrupted by the true Sartorius. Sartorius tells Aster that the light he is staring at is the light of destruction and that he plans to destroy humanity. Sartorius hands the case to Aster, claiming that the fate of the planet is in Aster's hands, and tells Aster to protect the key and save the world. Aster then wonders why Sartorius is there and opens the case to reveal a key, wondering what the key is and what it is for. Later, Aster appears as a confused Jaden is talking to Hassleberry in the Slifer Red dormitory about the strange key he received from Sartorius last night. Aster said that the key was very important and that the fate of the world depended on it. Aster surprises Jaden by showing him his key, and Aster states that he will guard the key and instructs Jaden to do the same, to which Jaden agrees.

Aster Phoenix will face Zane Truesdale, who is also participating in the Genex Tournament. Zane just stares at Aster angrily, but Aster teases Zane by stating that he heard Zane has changed and further asking if Zane losing to him was too much for Zane. Aster asks Zane if he wants to duel for revenge and activates the duel disk. Before the duel can begin, Aster is interrupted by Cyrus, who implores him not to duel with his brother. Syrus decides to become Zane's partner. Aster explains to Silas about Zane's pride, and he says that if Silas wants to duel Zane, he is fine with it. During the duel, Aster observes a dramatic change in Zane, from Zane who dueled with pride to a man who has now completely lost his pride, and witnesses Syrus losing to his younger brother.

Aster continued his search for the "Hero" card, easily defeating various Pro League Duelists in search of the card and its owner. Remembering Sarina's words after defeating Sartorius that the last person to touch the card was Sartorius, he rushes to the White Dormitory in a rage to talk to Sartorius, but is blocked from entering by brainwashed students.

Aster watches the Pro League World Title match between his adoptive father, The D, and his candidate, Dr. Collector. As he watched D head towards the stadium, Aster remembered the first time he met D. D lives up to his fame and fends off Dr. Collector, but the broadcast is interrupted so results may be shown. Immediately after the duel, Aster calls D to check if his adoptive father got out of the stadium safely. Aster finally gets a response from D, but in front of the destroyed stadium, D tells him that a long time has passed and that his ship will soon arrive near Duel Academy, and Aster hangs up before hanging up.

Aster takes him to D's huge private luxury liner. Once on the ship, Aster meets with D and asks about the outcome of the Pro League duel with the Doctor Collector Yacht, but D announces that he won but the Collector is dead. D angers Aster by saying that he defeated Dr. Collector in "Ultimate D" and locks Aster on a cruise ship. He explains that the only door Aster can get out of is the one behind D. Aster asks D why he is doing this, and D replies that it is because of the promise they made to each other for the title duel. the D claims to have maintained his title and status as World Duel Monsters Champion by retaining his title. D holds up the "Ultimate D" card and admits that he was the one who killed Aster's father. Aster asks D why he did that, and D says that it was because of his greed for glory and fame as a professional duelist, and his selfishness of wanting to become a legend, and that any duelist would do that to win. D explains that it was thanks to Aster that he was able to find out that Aster's father worked at Industrial Illusion and was developing a secret card. D explains how he obtained the card and attacked Aster's father, and D states that only good luck and victory came after stealing the Ultimate D. Aster denies D's confession and he wants to know why he became Aster's adoptive father after doing such an act. D explains that he tricked Aster into deflecting his suspicions. Aster berates D, calling him dishonorable and selfish, but D denies Aster's decision, claiming that he wanted to know if he had been chosen. He relates this situation to a legendary figure in history who committed a crime to achieve his goals, and he claims that he is a legend and the chosen one to stand before Aster. do. Aster calls D a lunatic, but D doesn't listen and calls Aster a "commoner." Aster lashes out at D and accepts their duel.

Aster takes the lead with "Clocktower Prison" and "Destiny Hero - Dogma" and prepares to use "Destiny Draw", but sacrifices his entire hand. However, on the next turn, D summons the Ultimate Destiny card "Destiny Hero - Plasma" and uses "Plasma" to absorb "Destiny Hero - Dogma", gaining half of Dogma's attack power and Dogma's effect. "Plasma" changes the flow. Inflicting heavy damage to Aster's life points in the duel, Aster realizes that Plasma's attack has done real damage to him. Aster still vows to win the duel, but D. Duels become even more unstable as you activate powerful "fate cards". "D - Force"; a powerful white entity engulfs D and "Plasma" and is revealed to be inhabiting D. The entity tells Aster not to fear the end, as it states that "everything" else will end soon too. Astor was just one of a small number in the early years. D continues to tease Aster and realizes that while Aster continues to use his "Destiny Hero" powers to control the future, Aster himself is stuck in the past. Aster uses complex card combinations. He thwarts D's attempt to thwart the move of "Clocktower Prison", summons "Dreadmaster" to build a defense, and even forces D to draw "D-Force" from the top of his deck. to temporarily remove "Plasma's" "Immunity." However, D reactivates "D Force" at the top of the deck, then activates "Unfair Judge", and Aster's newly summoned Attack all "Destiny Heroes" with "Plasma".

Aster is disappointed to see his "Destiny Heroes" destroyed by the "Ultimate Destiny Card" created for him by the man responsible for his father's death. Fortunately, his father's voice urged him not to forget the true power of "Destiny Heroes". Aster draws and receives "Destiny Hero - Dark Angel" as a reward, recalling that he inherited it in the first place. Aster quickly discovered the purpose of "Dark Angel" and why his father had created it. When he realizes that "Destiny Hero - Plasma" is inhabited by a malicious entity, as part of its weakness. Aster discards "Dark Angel" and places it on top of his opponent's deck, preventing "D Force" from affecting "Plasma". Since "Plasma" is no longer invincible, Aster uses the equipment card destruction effect of "Destiny Hero - Celestial" in combination with "Dark City" to overwhelm "Plasma". When Aster allows D Time to prepare before finishing him off, The D reveals that although he has never used "Plasma" in an official duel, he uses "Plasma" to steal the souls of the duelists he defeated in underground duels. He desperately reveals that he used "plasma" and shows Aster the many souls sealed in "plasma", including the Doctor's. A collector and the soul of Aster's father. Aster's father shows up and sees how Aster has grown. D tries to stop Aster's attack, but Aster's father explains his regret for creating "plasma" and states that he was forced to create the card. He tells Aster that the Light of Destruction he is using is just a shell, and that the true power of the Light is controlling Sartorius, stating that if he does not stop it, he will bring about his destruction. Aster's father encourages his son to defeat D and "Plasma" in order to take revenge on Aster and himself. Aster hears his father's last words and the "Celestials" destroy "Plasma" and D.

Due to D's defeat, D loses consciousness and the light in "Destiny Hero - Plasma" disappears, but the huge yacht also bursts into flames. During the flames, Aster picks up the fallen "Destiny Hero - Plasma" card and The D wakes up, but is enveloped in flames due to his madness. As Aster escapes, Chancellor Sheppard appears with a helicopter, lowering the ladder. Aster is transported by helicopter and witnesses a massive explosion that destroys most of the ship.

Despite efforts to stop him, Aster returns to Duel Academy, infiltrates the White Dormitory, and corners Sartorius in the Society of Light's private duel field. As a child, he promised his friend that he would save him from his fate of becoming a destroyer, but he wasn't sure how he would save him when the time came. He tries to give up the key to the laser satellite given to him by Sartorius's good nature, but Jaden intervenes and tells him its true purpose. Realizing that the current Sartorius is a light of destruction disguised as a lost comrade, Aster stakes the key to a duel. He soon realized that his fate within the Duel was not under his control as usual, as Sartorius' "Arcana Force" monster stopped its own rotation, putting Aster in a difficult situation. Eventually, the kind-hearted Sartorius appears before him, and the two end up supporting each other. Aster is rescued by the good spirit of Sartorius, who tells him that he can change his destiny. Taking advantage of their friendship that transcended fate, they displayed an amazing counterattack by summoning "plasma" and directly attacking the possessed Sartorius twice, almost defeating Aster the Duel. Cornered into a corner, the Light of Destruction shakes off its last card and unleashes "Arcana Force EX - The Light Ruler". The "Ruler of Light" surrounds the field with light and destroys the "plasma". Aster is then kidnapped by Sartorius, possessed by the Light of Destruction, who ransoms him in exchange for Jaden's remaining key. This fails and Aster is soon released by Hassleberry. When Sartorius is freed from the light, he thanks both Jaden and Aster for believing there is still good within him. Aster replies that he didn't do much but is glad everything is back to normal.

Dimension World[]

At the beginning of Year 3, Aster stops by Duel Academy to see Jesse Anderson's Crystal Beast monster. In the past, after winning a tournament sponsored by Industrial Illusions, Aster had a conversation with Maximilion Pegasus himself, who revealed that Aster was fourth among his top five favorite duelists, with Yugi Mutou and Seto Kaiba in front of him. Someone told them that Joey Wheeler was there. When Aster asked who the fifth person was, Pegasus answered that it was Jesse Anderson, a young duelist who was chosen by the Crystal Beast while participating in a European contest. Pegasus went on to explain that he gave Jesse the card because they chose him.

Aster contacts Jaden and the others with Dr. Eisenstein and tells them that they need the "Rainbow Dragon" card to return Duel Academy to its original location. After Duel Academy returns, he and Zane find Jaden and the others attempting to open the fourth dimension to search for Jesse, who is trapped in another dimension. However, if you get too close, you too will be sucked into the dimension. He and Zane travel alone, separated from the others. They reunite with Syrus, and Zane summons his "Cyber End Dragon" and saves Syrus from Doomdozer. However, they are forced to part again. After Jaden falls into darkness, they counter the Supreme King by defeating his minions and buying time for Axel Brodie to confront the King himself. Axel was able to save Jaden at the cost of sending himself to the stars. He and Zane then use the Cyber Dragon and Diamond Dude to save Crowler and Echo from a bunch of abusing Ushioni. He later tells Echo about Adrian. When Aster asks Echo if Adrian is her boyfriend, she replies that it doesn't concern him. When Adrian Gekko teleports him and the others to another alternate dimension, he duels with Adrian as he sees him cruelly treat Echo. Early in the Duel, he correctly guessed that Adrian was about to complete "Exodia" and limited his hand size to four with "Force of Four", which caused Adrian to accidentally he have allowed the ultimate forbidden king, Exodias, to be released. Adrian continues to use Echo as a living sacrifice after being defeated by Aster's monsters, extracting her soul as an offering to "Exodias" and later using it to collect the shards of "Exodias". Send it to the graveyard, win the duel and release it. Exodia. Aster decides to protect her friends and slows down Exodia with "Destiny HERO-Plasma" while protecting everyone from the explosion. With life points gradually decreasing, Aster orders Zane to take everyone out of the cave, after which "Exodia" launches an attack that causes a large explosion. He is later seen resurrected along with everyone else who died in the Duel Spirit world in another dimension after Jaden fuses with Yubel.

Darkness[]

In the fourth season, Dr. Crowler arranges for Chazz Princeton to train under Aster as an apprentice in the Pro League. Despite being an excellent assistant, Chazz loses the last D-card that Aster was guarding and becomes angry, and Chaz deliberately loses a duel with Jaden on Mike's orders, forcing Aster to retire. Mike then sets up a duel between Chazz and Aster to decide who will retire. Before the duel, Aster visited an orphanage he had funded, which Chazz observed. Mike's premise was that Aster was jealous of Chazz's newfound popularity, and he was threatening to scrap the match if Aster didn't agree to the duel and he lost. When the duel begins, Aster immediately uses "Destiny HERO - Dread Master" against Chazz's "Masked Dragon". Chazz summoned two "Armed Dragon LV5" and evolved them into Armed Dragon LV7. Aster is impressed and tells Chazz that he has become a worthy opponent to defeat, but Mike tells Aster to end it here. Before the duel can proceed further, it is revealed by Jaden that Mike stole the card, and Aster is allowed to remain in the league. Unable to defeat Chaz with "Destiny HERO-Plasma", he plays the final D card "Destiny His End His Dragoon", but Chazz destroys it with his ultimate monster "Armed Dragon LV10", Finish off Aster. Ace "Ojama Yellow" attacks and reverses the situation. Aster promises to defeat him one day, but encourages Chazz to accept the support of his new fans. Aster later appears in a flashback during Jaden and Sartorius' duel in Domino City, with Sartorius reminiscing about his life under lighting control.

Abilities[]

Aster's physical ability is surprisingly exemplary, especially considering his young age and size. Before defeating Zane in a professional duel, Aster single-handedly defeated a much bigger criminal than himself, disguising himself as a dueling monster and knocking him unconscious in an alley. Aster was even able to travel an incredible amount of space to the roof of the building before nearby police arrived, just seconds after being spotted by Zane. As Aster carefully observes Bastion, he notices that he is even in Bastion's room, and even though Aster is disguised as a Duel Monster again, he is so quick that even the genius Bastion thinks he can see.

Aster's impeccable senses and intelligence make him a fortune teller, similar to his best friend and manager's ability to accurately predict his own future. An example of Aster's precognitive abilities is Aster's first real duel with Jaden. There, he sets multiple events to occur in the future, causing Jaden's monsters to travel through time, and then targeting the expelled monsters that return to the field from their locations to cause damage to Jaden. went perfectly. While Aster's Clocktower field spell echoed dangerously at every turn, counting down to Jaden's defeat, it was something Aster had already decided upon and had revealed to Jaden in advance. Also, soon after the duel with Sarina began, Aster felt an eerie feeling and prophesied that Sarina had more hidden motives than what they were showing. Aster's prophecy came true when he confirmed that the "dark god" summoned by Sarina was the cause of his agitated emotions. Further evidence of Aster's foresight is that shortly after encountering Bastion, who attempts to challenge and win against Sartorius, Aster tells Jaden and his friends that Bastion will not be able to win regardless of whether he has the ability to win or not. Bastion completely predicted that he would lose, and that's exactly what Bastion did. It's like Bastion was supposed to defeat Sartorius' servant, Chazz, but lost due to Sartorius' own machinations.

When Aster visited Domino City, Aster was unable to see Duel Monster Spirits, like when he saw the four "Monarch" Duel Spirits cast by Sarina creating a barrier around Domino City.
