Avatar Aang, reputed as the Last Airbender, is the titular main protagonist of Nickelodeon's Avatar: The Last Airbender franchise.

Born and raised among the air nomads under the tutelage of Monk Gyatso and the youngest airbending master of his generation, Aang was only 12-years-old when the monks revealed to him that he is the latest reincarnation of The Avatar, an entity capable of mastering all 4 elements whose duty is to keep the peace between the nations, with the last one Roku having just died of unknown circumstances. However, never wanting to be someone destined for major responsibilities at the time & his status as the Avatar greatly affecting his normal life, Aang instead chose to hop onto his pet sky bison Appa and run away, but when a storm hit while they were flying, Aang & Appa were thrown into the ocean which forced him to try and save them, but it only got him and his loyal friend frozen in a giant sphere of ice that sank to the ocean floor where no one could find them.

100 years later, Aang was eventually freed from his iceberg where he would meet two siblings from the southern water tribe named Katara, a waterbending girl who he would develop romantic feelings for, and her non-bending older brother Sokka. But he soon learned that while he was in the iceberg, the Fire Nation had started a century-long war to conquer the world and (knowing that the Avatar would be their greatest obstacle) slaughtered every air-nomad in the hopes to prevent the next Avatar's birth, which makes Aang finally except his destiny and he embarks on a quest with his new friends to restore balance to the world.

In the years after successfully putting a stop to the Fire Nation's world-conquest campaign and ushering in a new era of peace across the world, Aang would eventually marry Katara and start of family with her, giving birth to three kids named Bumi, Kya, and Tenzin where he would live a happy life with them before peacefully passing away. When Aang died his spirit would eventually be reincarnated into a feisty young waterbending girl named Korra, and like his past lives before him, his spirit would guide her and his kids throughout their adventures.
